Shopping >Mo Ma Design Store
Interesting but expensive. I like to go to their store, even when I'm not coming to see an exhibit at the Moma. The thing is, you see many beautiful things that you can't afford to buy. Then there are some cheaper items that are mostly for tourists. I like the original, creative products they feature in the store but would like to see higher turnover so each visit will be more interesting. As for prices, maybe there is a way to source some cool, groovy items that will be more affordable? something Moma should think about. Designed products do not have to be out of reach for most visitors.
Packed with designer objets, it's not your mother's museum store..
The original MoMA Design Store is neither as attractive or as well-stocked as its Soho counterpart, but it does have the advantage of being located on the same block as MoMA itself. You'll find all kinds of arty home accessories here, many of them included in MoMA's collections.
Aalto vases make a swell couple-who-has-everything wedding present, while witty umbrellas (black on the outside, but lined with clouds) are a welcome break from bought-on-the-street numbers. The modern jewelry could provide you with the perfect token for Mother's Day, and a MOMA coffee table tome is good for just about anyone who likes art. But what about you? MOMA's holiday cards are our faves, and the various reproductions of Eames pieces would be welcome in any apartment. But if you can't make up your mind, sit back in a Herman Miller Aeron chair and pretend you're a master of the universe.
