“Despite having one person sleep on the floor in an 80 degree room, what really set the stay was the lack of closet and being stuck in the jail cell like elevator for 15 minutes while the front desk called maintenance (which never came).”
Want to stay here again. Although this hotel could stand for a minor remodeling job, I have to admit that my weekend stays there were satisfactory. The location is simply extremely convenient being so close to Central Park and Broadway and shopping. The staff did a very respectable job on cleaning the rooms, delivering room service in a timely fashion. The rooms could definitely be a little bigger, but the room prices could also be a lot higher given the locale.
Its okay!. If your frist timer in new york don't do this hotel. Its very small room. I am used to large scale room in Los Angeles. It would only be good for a single person in one room. If your traveling with someone with you your pushing this hotel because its too small to have a second person. Also, no place to put your bags. I had four large bag and not place to put them. Front desk is nice but not the brightest can't explain what they are doing. The only good thing about this hotel is close by a lot of locations such has grand central park, the broadway time square. Its pretty much walking distance if your a walker! The fitness room is small as well. This place is not worth spending no more then $50 a night its not bigger then motel 6.
Terrible at best. Upon arriving at the "WJ" I was told we would have two double beds to accomodate three guys, however the room was equipped with two single beds. The air-conditioning blew out fan type air. Despite having one person sleep on the floor in an 80 degree room, what really set the stay was the lack of closet and being stuck in the jail cell like elevator for 15 minutes while the front desk called maintenance (which never came). Other then having a good location, do not pay more then $100 a night for this hotel
Editorial Review. Midtown hotel near theaters and restaurants has Equinox fitness center, in-room Internet access, data port connections for modem and fax hookup.
very small room. Room was VERY small, I had to climb over the bed to get to the window with suitcases on the floor. There was a room service menu in the room, when we called to place an order, we were told they did not offer room service. Our first night in the room we decided to go online ( the hotel website boasts free internet access in all rooms) the instructions stated there would be an additional charge. Small inconvenience at best but not as advertised. The plus was the bed was very comfortable, clean, and the water was hot. Why is there a phone in the bathroom when you can reach the phone in the room from anywhere you may be. I knocked the phone off the wall almost everytime I was in the bathroom. More irritating than anything else.
Decent at best. The WJ is in a nice, convenient location. The rooms, although microscopic, are fairly clean, and the closet-sized bathrooms are newly renovated. Speaking of closets, our room did not have one, so we had to hang our clothes from the hospital-style TV carriage. There is a strong odor of cigarette smoke in all the rooms (we stayed in a total of 3 because the first two were defective in one way or another). The staff was obnoxious.
A SATISFIED Englishman in New York!. The WJ is a hotel which has no glitz and glamour, but has everything a short stay in New York requires. As someone else once told me, 'who goes to NY to stay in their hotel room'. The reception is clean, but small (small being the main word in this review). The staff are friendly and very helpful, always on stand-by, to answer your questions. The rooms (we had 431) where small, clean and very comfortable, with a modern and stylish bathroom to match. Its worth paying that bit extra, because if this is the top end, then the standard rooms could be dissapointing. The only down sides, where the state of the elevators and the stairways. They are in need of some refurbishment. Also the location is PERFECT! Slap bang in MIDTOWN! All in all worth the money, and recommended to all who want to visit this great city!
Not too bad.
The WJ is a great place to sleep. It is affordable, in a convenient location, and the service is alright.
The first impression when entering could be improved if the bellhop wouldn't be so aggressive - he was helpful, I just knew I would not be taking the bags to my room alone.
The elevator is a little small, but I've heard this is normal. Also, the room is small but nice. The closet is a peice of furniture and does not accomodate a full length dress. The bathroom is cool.
We stayed in a room with a queen sized bed - which I recommend. I would stay there again.
Very Good hotel!. Stayed in the WJ again last week on a return trip to New York. This hotel is consistently clean and organized, and their staff deserves many compliments. Always a pleasure returning here.
First Big City visit. Stayed at the WJ first visit to New York. It was a most wonderful hotel. The front desk crew was very friendly and helped me get settled in. I enjoyed two nights in a very clean, comfortable room. I would recommend this to anyone traveling to New York.
