“Worst service I've ever had”
“The room was huge with a luxorious king size bed.”
Good deal. We stayed here in August 2007 and were really pleasantly surprised with the size of the room and the quietness of the hotel in general. Especially for NYC, this was really a superb value for the money. I would stay again if we could get the same deal!
Nice Rooms, Convenient Location, Friendly, Knowledgable Staff. We enjoyed our stay at Flatotel on a recent trip to NYC. It is conveniently located in Manhattan, close to Times Square, Broadway and some very nice restaurants. The rooms were very clean and nicely appointed. The staff was very friendly and knowledgable of the area. Would definitely return.
Worst service I've ever had. I checked in and found that the toilet didn't work and one of the dresser drawers was missing a runner so it wouldn't open & close. On my way out to dinner I notified the front desk. I came back 6 hours later; no one had ever come to the room to fix the problems. I called down again; a half hour later a plumber fixed the toilet, but no one fixed the dresser. The next morning I turned on the shower - the handle popped off. And the shower head was broken and wouldn't spray any water. I called down to the front desk and told them I was in a hurry as I had a meeting to get to. 15 minutes later I called down again - "You are going to get me fired. Pick another room for me to shower in until you can figure out how to get someone up to my room to fix the shower." I showered on another floor while the problem was supposedly getting fixed. I came back to my room after the meeting to find... the shower was still broken. Other delightful ammenities at the Flatotel include uninsulated windows (there's some newspaper crammed into the space between the window in my room 1003), so you have to have the heat on constantly - plus you hear the howling wind through the space in the window all night. I travel a lot for business, and this is the worst hotel experience I have ever had. Bad lodging and worse customer service.
Editorial Review by Citysearch Editors. Midtown hotel offers apartment-size guest rooms with full kitchens and living areas, fitness center, wireless Internet access and business center.
Terrific midtown choice. Great value in central location. Very friendly and efficient staff. The staff made this feel like a warm, small city hotel hidden in mid-town Manhattan. Renovated room was unusually large and comfortable. Nothing very fancy, but totally adequate. I'd gladly stay here again. Only problem is limited number of elevators which means you need to allow an extra 5 minutes at busy times (e.g., pre-dinner or check out time). The restaurant (Il Moda) had good - not great - food, friendly service, and pleasant decor. A good pre-theater choice.
Great location and value!. This hotel has great deals on their unrenovated suites during their slower months! They are huge, king or queen bed with either a pull-out sofa or murphy bed in the living room, 1 1/2 baths, a kitchen and dining area. The decor is a little dated, but clean and well appointed! The reservationist told me this building used to be condos and apartments; no wonder they are so big! Close to all attractions with great staff, it's a great deal if you're looking to get away to NYC for a weekend! Next time I visit I'm going to try a renovated room!
Huge, but dirty, rooms. If you need size, this place is perfect. If you want great service and clean rooms--go somewhere else. We stayed one night in a one bedroom suite. Very pricey, but large with a full kitchen and large living room. There were ants in the room, dirty, stained floors, and service was just so-so. We checked out after the first night and went to Doubletree Suites.
Unrenovated Room Surprise. I booked a suite online, and thought I was getting one of the nice rooms they show on their website...WRONG. The room was shabby, with dirty draperies, tattered carpet and tiles falling off in the bathroom. The "king" bed was actually 2 twins pushed together. No Sony Wega, no VCR, no CD player or any of the amenities the advertise on their website. I was told the rate I paid was for an "unrenovated" (read: busted) room. Of course, there was no indication of this on my confirmation form. Just make sure you know what kind of room you're getting before you book here.
Fantastic rooms. I live in the city but booked the Flatotel as an escape weekend. We stayed in a corner room - much like the one in the picture. It was magnificent and well worth the price, microwave, fridge, the whole nine. Beautifully appointed design, wood work, etc. The most comfortable bed I have EVER slept in in a hotel. The conceirge got us right into our room when front desk thought there may be a delay - he's excellent. I would definitely stay here again.
A Nice Surprise. After reading reviews of this hotel I was a bit concerned. I made a late reservation for two weeks before Christmas and got a good deal on a renovated room. We arrived on a Friday night and the check-in process was easy and quick considering it was a mid-town hotel. The location is great. Easy walking distance to most tourist attractions. We stayed in a renovated room which was spacious and clean and comfortable. The bar area isn't great but it was fine for a quick drink before heading out to dinner. The only problem we experienced was getting our car upon check-out. We waited nearly and hour along with 3 other people. The manager finally had to go retrieve the vehicles from the garage. Overall our experience was good and we would stay here again.
