What People Are Saying About Gold's Gym

In Short – The Terminator and the Incredible Hulk (aka Arnold Schwarzenegger and Lou Ferrigno) lifted weights at the gym's Venice, California, flagship years ago, but even today, customers frequenting charter locations are bound to encounter serious muscle. Take note: The boys with bulging biceps are the mascots, not the majority. Gold's generally offers Spinning, aerobics and kickboxing classes, yet weight-training remains the core of the program. Dumbbells and barbells, not spa-like amenities, are the attractions that draw the beef-heads in droves.

service
50.0% positive
  1. There is havoc with members being cattle herded through ten people before getting a mediocre answer.
  2. The classes are great at this gym (even if you are a beginner) and the staff are helpful and friendly.
value
100.0% positive
  1. would not recommend joining this gym to anyone, definately spend the extra bucks to join a decent gym!
  2. with one huge exception?
  3. The gym is clean, the personal trainers actually know what they are doing, and its a good price.
  4. It still offers some of the best equipment anywhere, is always clean, has long hours, and is still a fairly good value.

Review for Gold's gym west 54th

by brutenyc

thought about buying a one year but Robert the manager with the bad teeth and bad breath was rude and very unhelpful. waste of my time. I'd rather go elsewhere than help someone like him with his dental bills.

the worst gym in NYC

by ChrisLngb

When you come in, they give you one rag, they call it towel. Don't ask for an other one, you will get attitude from the stuff. The equipment is very old and many cardio machines are broken and they don't even put sign that they are out of order. Bathroom stinks and it's dirty.

Great Gym

by Mark Loves NYC

I've been working out for years, simply put. Gold's gym is the real deal. The price is great and has all the equipment you need.

Unethical and Dishonest

by hkguy

Unethical and untrustworthy. I visited the gym the last Monday in August to try it out. It was pretty warm inside and Abdul told me that the Air conditioning was being repaired but it was normally cool inside. I signed up for a year prepaid membership. Over the next month every time I went in the evening it was hot because they simply did not turn on the AC. I asked the staff to turn on the AC and they always did but it takes forever to cool down so it did me no good. I finally asked to cancel my membership because my doctor advised I find someplace cooler to work out. The doctor wrote a letter as the contract requested but the gym would not honor it. Robert is the manager and has no power to make any decisions. An earlier poster was correct--he was very sarcastic when I asked him why they did not run the AC. The owner's name is Gary Prince and I have not yet had a chance to find out why he would not follow the contract. Avoid this place. It may be cheap, but there is a reason.
