Editorial Review for Foundation for Hellenic Culture – by Mina Hochberg
Greekfest
If your knowledge of Greece is limited to a story about a wooden horse and glossy images of white-sand beaches and sparkling blue water, the Foundation for Hellenic Culture opens its doors to you. While some cultural centers in the city rely on flashy architecture to attract visitors, the Foundation's modest space and spare, virtually non-existent decor is perfect for no-fuss exhibits.
Balkan Beauty
Under the curation of an earnest programming staff, the Foundation's exhibits, readings, and lectures convey raw beauty, tones of boldness, and the sense of a maritime culture that dates back to the foundations of Western Culture. Past highlights include the paintings of Pavlos Samios, whose granular colors and awkward bodies capture a stirring eroticism. The Foundation also co-sponsors outside events, including the annual "New Greek Cinema" Festival.
