“They are a friendly group who have promptly responded to my tenancy concerns.”
awful with health hazards. The previous reviewer is correct. These people won't fix anything. There is garbage piled outside of my door that workers left. The heat is turned up high despite it being 60 degrees out (and I am always cold so if I am saying it's hot, it must be boiling). When I turn off the radiators, she rattle and make sounds non stop all night long. Cracks in the ceilings and walls. Water damage constantly. I And management tells me there is nothing they can do. So I reported them to the Department of Health and Buildings. I agree with the previous review. Go elsewhere!
DON'T USE THEM!!. Absolutely corrupt, the worst people I've dealt with after 20 years in NYC and several building. They must have staff put up reviews here because nothing good can be said. Most tenants in my building have horror stories. You can't get repairs, major ones and the staff lies. These 5 star reviews HAVE to be from staff!!! Honestly go else where!!! I wish I could give no star!
So far so good. My best friend and I just moved into our apartment in late August and so far so good. The management company is really quick to respond to whatever we need and the renting process was really straight forward.
absolutely miserable.
I'm not one for accusations, but I can't imagine the 5 star ratings for this place were actually done by tenants..
Sky is just another one of these awful nyc property management companies. Employees are young, inexperienced, and poorly trained. My roof has been leaking for over a month and they just bumble around trying to figure it out.
I could go on for pages about them but there's really no point. They suck, and if you have any other option that doesn't have the same bad reviews, go for it.
The Sky's the Limit.
I am happy with Sky. Sky is a standard to above average management company.
In my opinion, Sky has reasonably priced apartments (with NO fee) and provides standard to above average service. Sky management is certainly no where near as bad as these reviews make it sound. So far all of my experiences have been positive.
I was scared by many of the negative reviews here, but after 7 months with Sky Management I could not be happier. Everyone in the building I have spoken with is happy with their apartment and rental situation. I believe most of Sky’s buildings are about 100 years old, mine is from around 1900. These are not luxury rental buildings with doormen, but my building is well managed and maintained daily.
Sky properties are definitely worth looking at, I am glad I was not scared off.
I am happy with Sky!
Sky Management doesn't manage. The owners of Sky, Ben and Jon Ohebsahlom of the Kings Point Ohebshaloms (father Robert is a pediatrician) keep costs down by not doing anything, illegally raising rents and intimidating tenants. Don't rent with them. Ever.
DON'T EVER RENT FROM SKY MGMT - YOU'VE BEEN WARNED.
Where do I begin.... Orchestrated break - ins of rent controlled tenants apartments, HORRIBLE service, rude staff, shotty workmanship, renovation of apartments without permits, LYING staff (I wonder if being a pathological liar is a job requirement or do they make you into such a person?), ignored maintainence requests, Outrageous rent increases, open houses late at night, rodent infestation, etc is the tip of the iceberg.
But hey, if you don't mind sporatic hot water, theft of your belongings by employees, unannounced entrance into your apartment, unreturned phone calls for maintainence and portions of your deposit kept for bogus reasons, then Sky Management is the landlord for you.
For everyone else, you've been warned...
A zero star rating wasn't allowed but bear in mind that my one star rating is an insult to all other one star ratings.
Not the best.
UPDATE:
I feel I need to update my review, since its obviously effecting my housing situation in New York City.
ORIGINAL POST - REVISED
So I wrote my original post (see below) when I was very upset right after I moved into the apartment in Nov. 2008. I feel like I was not treated fairly, the move-in was not handled professionally by Sky Management, the woman who was the rep was very rude & the apartment was in a horrendous state of disaster when I got my keys. The tenant before me did not clean, there were piles of trash, broken glass, furniture, pizza boxes, beer bottles, the apartment smelt like a stale nightclub. I was shocked at the condition when I arrived with my movers.
I contacted Sky about the condition of my move-in (yes, I made the mistake of waving the $100 cleaning fee, but that usually doesn't mean piles of garbage and horrible stench). I was trying to get a discount for the first day since it took about 6 hours to get the apartment just in 'decent' condition. It wasn't until I finally sent photos that they agreed to credit me a whopping $76.
9 MONTH LATER...
So my lease was for 9 months (not 12, strange... just in time for end of summer rental). I have to say that the apartment, once cleaned, was very enjoyable. The heat worked great and Christopher St. is delightful. DAVID who was my contact person at Sky ended up being wonderful and fixed things promptly. We developed a great email/phone relationship and I am thankful for his kindness and prompt attention to any issues.
However, now that my lease is almost up...
Sky offered me $100 discount to renew my lease ($2295 for studio in West Village, 5th floor walk-up, not fancy), that was nice, but the apartment is still about $500 OVER MARKET RATE, plus the common areas were never cleaned, graffiti on the front door was never removed, etc.
STILL RUDE
I just got off the phone with the rental agent. I had asked for a larger discount for my rent, since the woman next to me AND the guy below me are both paying $500 LESS than me...but BECAUSE OF THIS POSTING ON CITY SEARCH, she said she "could not offer more than $100 discount, we will just agree to disagree on what the apartment is worth...and then said because of my posting on City Search, that I was not the kind of tenant that they wish to have in their rental units.
wow!!
So I'll stop now because I really want to receive my full deposit. Wow!!!
I'll keep you posted on how getting the deposit back will go....
Okay management. Nice Offices but not a great experience overall..
The superintendent for the building I looked at was very nice and seemed very helpful. However, I have heard a few stories about the management not responding to concerns for basic needs in the building.
The offices are very nice and feel very young. However, I would suggest caution before renting with this group. Just look at all of your options and ask other tenants in specific building what their experience has been.
