What Our Expert Scouts Say

February 13, 2013

If there were a National Registry of Breads, Orwashers would have to be near the head of the list. If it's not the oldest, best, and more representative bakery in New York, I'll give you my double-seeded rye.

In response to honesti's old post. Orwashers does not use preservatives in its bread so it must be eaten same day. If you have to serve it a day later it should be wrapped very well and refrigerated.

Knowing a great rye. I saw Honesti's review and it occurred to me that some people don't understand a great rye bread. A great rye bread must be used the same day for maximum enjoyment, each day after it will become somewhat dry and stale within 3-4 days. This is because a great rye bread is made preservative free, maybe Honesti should stick to the Levy's packaged stuff since he / she is obviously clueless.

Bad Quality. The worst rye bread I ever had. I went to this bakery seeking a great rye rread, since my family and I grew up with really great rye bread , I thought this would be the place to get it. But I was greatly mistaken.Got it home and was going to serve it the next day so I warpped it up very well, when I went to serve it , it was like stale bread. That should not happen to great quality bread, they must use inferior ingredients. Never again will I go there. Not worth the trip or money.

The Best. Best rye bread on the planet. The heavily-seeded rye is the standard against which all other bread is judged.

Raisin Pump Rules!. I grew up on this bread, and a recent visit happily confirmed that the breads and the bakery haven't changed a whit. The dense, dark, almost caramelized-tasting raisin pumpernickel is true bread perfection, as is the rye and corn rye.
