In Short – The Central Park Zoo and the Tisch Children's Zoo draw groups, families and kids. The most popular exhibits are the tumbling polar bears and the penguin house. Volunteers inform and educate classes and families on the subjects of conservation, the environment and wildlife. Those interested in volunteering at the zoo must complete a 10-week training program and make a one-year commitment of two days per month.

Adventure Playground = Great for young children!
by Nannygenius
I am a professional Nanny for families with young children. The adventure playground on 67tth and 5th avenue is one of the best playgrounds in Central Park, for young children Especially during the hot summer months. There is an awesome sprinkler system for toddlers. Not only are there fine mist sprayers, there is a water path that forms a little stream they can play and splash in. There are also good seating areas for Nannies and Moms.
Talk about peace and quiet

I live a block away and will take any chance I get to stroll through the park. It’s hard to add to the rest of the reviews, but I’m just another person who can vouch for the park’s serenity and beauty.
When it’s nice out, I don’t know why I bother having a dinner table in my apartment. I always go to the park and eat on the benches.
- Pros: Can't get much prettier
- Cons: Good only when nice out
Central Park is GORGEOUS
by Jill Wolford
Central Park is GORGEOUS. Do you have a day off from work? Is it nice outside? Do whatever it takes to get to Central Park and just absorb the beautiful surroundings. If you’re not into that type of stuff, just bring a book or newspaper along and sit anywhere. There are tons of benches, but I prefer the open grass areas.
Central Park is also a great place to get some exercise. Running and biking seem to be the most popular, but there are also baseball and softball fields as well as tennis courts that are easy to sign up. I’m not a member of my local gym and I plan to stay that way now that I have a great place to go outdoors.
One last thing, the Boat House up on 72nd street is a sight worth taking your girlfriend or wife. Its breathtaking view is worth the walk and if you have the means, I hear the food at the restaurant next to the water is amazing as well. I saw people getting married here. That’s how nice it is.
- Pros: Serenity, open grass areas, great for reading or exercise
- Cons: Not much
Why leave the borough?

It is in the middle of Manhattan. The Bronx Zoo may be fine, but as far as convenience. The Central Park Zoo is a must. Just don't feed the Polar Bear.
day of fun for a big kid
by shanmh1115
I decided to go here on whim after walking through the park. I was alone, but I had such a great time. There's not a ton of animals like the Bronx Zoo, but it's an intimate atmosphere and small enough to easily walk around and not get too tired. I watched the polar bears for a good twenty minutes. It started to rain, but there's plenty of awning and indoor exhibits to take refuge in. Mostly all the animals were out and about doing stuff. They don't take credit or debit, but for $6 who cares?!
- Pros: great price, cute animals, intimate park
