“Beautiful vaulted brick ceilings and ornate woodwork give the place a beautiful ambiance when combined with the Bluesey rock they play on their sound system.”
“was there twice in the last week and both times, the beer was warm and flat, and on the second trip when I finally worked up the nerve to complain, I later overheard the owner complaining about me.”
“had a really great shrimp salad and we shared the best burger.”
“The food is terrible and also over priced with the menu never changing.”
“Copperfields remains the best place to get beers with friends on the UES.”
“The food was scrumptious and the bar tendress was very friendly and knowledgeable of what they have.”
“Food overpriced and not great, beer overpriced not a special selection, but decent.”
One of the best beer bars in NYC. I've been enjoying the David Copperfield's atmophere, beer selection, food and staff since 2005. I used to live in Astoria and travel all the way to York Ave just to sample the beer selections on tap. Thankfully now I live on the UES and only have to walk a couple blocks to my favorite beer. The food and beer has always had uncompromising quality and diversity. I'm never disappointed after I walk out their door. The staff- from the waitstaff, to the friendly bartenders to amazing managers to the down to earth, attentive owners - Copperfields is always a warm, welcoming environment. It is my go-to bar in NY and I'll always go back no matter where I live in the 5 boroughs. And by the way, just in case people think I'm not a real customer or this review was written by an employee, go into Copperfields during happy hour or on Sunday for football and I'll be sitting at the end of the bar, drinking a dark beer and probably playing some darts. :)
It was a good spot...back in the day.
I've been coming here quite often. I must say that lately, I've been very disappointed. This place used to have a great and large beer selection. Now it seems that the beer menu has been cut in half. There isn't much rotation going on with the beers. It's always the same set of beers. I'm starting to memorize the menu. Back in the day, this menu was different every week.
I will say however, the waitresses there are all wonderful. Great service and they make great beer recommendations. They keep me coming back often due to their knowledge of beers and service. The manager is terrific. He's always saying hello and always making sure you are happy. You can't miss him. He's got a cool afro. There seems to be another new guy there. Maybe another manager, but he doesn't really do much to make you feel at home at DC's. There is also a new bartender there as well, don't know how much experience she has. She over poured
my beers and seems to be spaced out at times. I'm still a fan of the usual bartender that's there. She never screws up my order.
I sure hope that things go back to the way they used to be. The staff is what keeps me going back to this place. Ginger Man is starting to look much better nowadays.
Seriously Rocking Place.
Did I mention a huge beer selection? I was reading the last review and it says small selection. OK, 30 taps of craft beer, a hand drawn cask conditioned offering, and 100 plus bottles and this is a small selection? OK, enough of that.
I've been twice. The bartender, Fran, when I was there the first time knew her stuff and definitely could recommend good beers. Also, the atmosphere, with local folks and professors from Cornell and Rockefeller University hanging out was definitely different, but definitely cool and intellectual, without being at all pretentious.
Food here is solid. I had baby back ribs twice, and they are among the best I have had anywhere. If you are lucky enough to live on the upper east side, make this your 2nd home.
cask not always on.
I have been serveral times in the hope of trying one of their cask ales. Sadly, on each occasion, no cask. THis is a shame. Overall, the bar is a typical NY bar - open plan with the usual food selections.
It is okay, but there is nothing to make one travel to go there ,if you are in the area, do give it a try.
Well we started the night off with the idea of having a couple beers and some burgers at DC's. Since when we walked by they had a sign advertising a 4th of July party with $3 beers. So we go in and seat our selfs and order two beers, some patato skins and two burgers. We get our beers and then are told from a confuzed waitress that she realized that she can't give us the "happy hour" drink prices if we are not sitting at the bar. No mind you there was no room to is at the bar because of the world cup quater finals. Since we already have our drinks there is no choice, so we are forced to pay full price. Then our burgers had the smallest serving of fries I have seen. Yet, no patato skins. So we just start eating, now mind you we are also being ignored by this waitress. Half way through eating the server notices finaly that we don't have the patato skinds and goes to find out what happened.
She comes to tell us that they did make them. Although they were so burnt and small that they cant serve them to us. She asked if you wanted anything else instead. We desided to get some nachos instead. Well after alot more of being ignored. I even at one point had my credit card out in plain sight on the table and she just walked right past us.
It was so bad my date had to walk home, across the street were we live mind you. To rest people we were forced to wait there for so long. Once I did get a bill after half a hour of waiting for it. I noticed that I was charged $11.99 for the plate of nachos. That we only ordered because she was offering nice they ruined our order. I expected it to be comped or at least half off. No full price, when the patato skinks I wanted was $5.99. Now the $12 plate of nachoes was the most pathetic serving I have ever saw. It was so small I was hoping it was free, because that was all it was worth.
This is just one horrible experience after another.
Half rack of ribs has shrunk!. My firend and I decided to eat here after being here on a Friday night and enjoying the bar atmosphere that night. The BBQ smelled great and we were looking forward to it. We both ordered the same thing, 1/2 rack of ribs and 1/4 chicken. It comes with corn on the cob, slaw and pickles. We were very disappointed. The corn was cold..cold as in barely cooked. The 1/2 rack of ribs were defined by the owners as 3 ribs only... and they forgot the slaw...we had to ask for it. The only thing that made the meal palatable was the very kind waitress who by now, should be looking for another place to work if she wants to make any tips. The meal cost us with 2 diet cokes, $40 plus a generous tip...total $48 for crap. My advice, go there to drink...don't waste the time on food.
This is a regular on our restaurant rotation. We live a few blocks from Copperfield's and go there all the time. It's a very laid-back place and the wait staff has always been very nice to us, if not always the quickest. We love their DC blackened burger and their pulled pork. It's an easy place to go where you know you'll get reliable food and almost always a table immediately.
A Over Priced Place.
The place is terrible. I live less than one block away from Copperfield's and use to go there all the time. They have recently fired their staff and brought in new people who dont even know how to serve a beer, I might add you are on average paying $6.50 to dink on the upper east side.
The place is always empty and attracks no one. The food is terrible and also over priced with the menu never changing.
Also, the biggest thing is the owners, they are extremly rude. I would never step foot in that place again.
Save your money or go to the bars on second avenue, much nicer scene....
Friendly Retort. I am not a big user of Citysearch. I admit it. However, I visited a restaurant recently, enjoyed my experience, and was doing some web surfing when I noticed these reviews. First off, these "one-review wonders" are no doubt enemies of the restaurant for whatever reason. Copperfield's is great. Great food, good service and an incredibly nice ambiance with wonderful beers, perhaps the biggest selection I have ever seen in one place at one time. The manager who greeted me was friendly and seemed busy all night with assisting the servers and bartenders. Don't believe the negativity, and they don't even serve a cheese plate of any kind.
