Malagas is an excellent Spanish cuisine restaurant on the upper east side of Manhattan. A hidden Jem just off the avenue (1st ave) on East 73rd street....highly recommend this place as well as their fresh made sangria - best in all of NYC!!!

Great when you have the time to wait.... I have been to Malaga many times before: with family, with friends, or on a date night. I’ve never had an unpleasant experience there. The food is always amazing and everyone is always so accommodating. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same about my last experience there. I came for dinner with my two-year-old son at six o’clock and our food did not arrive until after 7:30. Thanks for the broken booster seat, the bread with butter, the potato chips, and the four salads you served for 5 adults and one child. After waiting for an hour and a half I had to leave with my son to put him to bed because he was not only tired; but hungry after waiting so long for the food to arrive. Seriously disappointed… My son goes to bed at 8pm and that waiting time we experienced was really out of order. I cannot say that I’ll be recommending this restaurant to anyone I know in the future.

One of the BEST finds in NYC!!!. Frankly, I was amazed when I read the last two reviews. We've been going here for 30 years, and it is the same chef, and really wonderful, wonderful food. The atmosphere is exactly reminiscent of restaurants you would eat in while in Spain. Their lobster in green sauce, shrimps plancha (shrimp in lots of garlic), and especially their chicken villaroy are especially terrific. They have many specialties, all extremely tasty. Their white sangria is also wonderful. Whenever we have friends visiting (which is all of the time), the first place they want to go to eat is always Malaga. Anna(the hostess/manager), Eddie, Paco and the rest of the staff always make us feel so welcome- they don't know what to do for us!!!

If you have never eaten there, most definitely try it- you will go back repeatedly.

Going Down The Drain!. As an old customer of Malaga, i'm surprised to see how bad the service has become. It took 20 minutes for the hostess/manager to greet us as we stood in the bar area and the restaraunt wasn't even packed. It took another 20 minutes to get the attention of the waitstaff for our drinks and another 15 before we physically caught hold of someone to take our order for food. At the end of the night, we were surprised to see our entire credit card numbers and details on our pay-slips and as per habit we ALL crossed out the digits but the last 4..who wants to risk identity theft right?..And we had a literal meltdown from the hostess/manager who stormed over to our table and preceeded to scream at us about how we were ruining her business by crossing out the digits and how we didn't understand how to run a business etc etc etc (all 3 of us work in finance btw)..it was unbelievably rude and she kept screaming as we even left our cell phone numbers in case she had issues clearing our credit card statements..she acknowledged us as customers she knew from past years but proceeded to insult us as we paid a RATHER HEFTY bill for tapas and sangria...but none of that mattered as we did not own our own business and therefore did not understand how we were ruining hers..Been going there for years..love their patatas bravas..and mushrooms..but...the quality of food is sinking and service has neared rock bottom...stay away from the prozac ridden hostess! After all these years...I'm finding another spanish restaraunt to frequent.

Nothing special. Walking by the restaurant one day, I was thrilled to find a new tapas place on the UES. The reviews seemed great, but my friends and I were extremely disappointed.

The decor is slightly tacky, the food nothing special, and the silverware seemed dirtly, if not ancient. After paying the bill I felt completely unsatisfied with the experience and not ever planning on going back.

Quisiera mas!. As past users have indicated, the decor is nothing to look at, but the food is excellent. The empanadas were very tasty, artichoke hearts excellent. The sangria was not as great as I expected but good nonetheless. Staying on the UES when I visit New York, this restaurant is convenient and pretty inexpensive for the awesome food they serve. It made me feel like I was back in Malaga, Spain without the smoky airport.

Love This Place. My husband has lived in the area for almost 20 years and took me here on our first date ..... The Sangria is amazing, the stuffed mushrooms are to die for ..... we always order the Filet Migon Malaga and the Shrimp alla Chef (around 30 shrimp) and the strawberry cheese cake. We come here around once a month for a great meal. The decor is very dated ...... but the place is a favorite for us. You should check it out ...... definetly work a try. We also took some friends here and they loved it as well!

Enjoy !

Me gusta mucho!. Although the decor of this restaurant doesn't measure up to most others in NYC, my boyfriend and I keep coming back because the food is delicious! I am always in search of good Spanish restaurants being I've lived in Spain and LOVE the food, and I must say the food brings me back every time! I recommend the tapas (emapanadas y croquetas) and we always order the sangria. Also, it's reasonably priced.

Muy Bien!. This is a true find in NYC! The food is delicious and the portions are large enough to share or take home leftovers. It's perfect for a quick dinner or even a large group. Start with the yummy tapas and share some of the larger plates for dinner. You won't regret it!
