Good Food, Bad Service....
I go to 879 taco somewhat often. I enjoy the quality food, with a more natural taste. Sitting down to eat there is a pleasure with the authentic scenery, and personal atmosphere (being there are never more than 4 people there at a time).
My main issue is that when ordering delivery, the man who answers the phone is so rude I considered canceling my order. I had to defend why I was calling. I said "may I place an order for delivery?" and with no response puts me on hold for a couple of minutes. Then finally gets back to me and rushes me through an entire order with an attitude after each item as though I was inconveniencing him. When The food came the nachos we mush, and the burrito was cold.
I suggest you try another restaurant.
Awesome!!!!.
I love this place, am surprised to see the bad reviews!
I went to this place last weekend and had the fajitas: loved them! So I went back tonight and tried the quesadillas - loved it again!! The prices are out of this world - a fajita (small) for 3$, a steak quesadilla with everything in it (guacamole, sour cream etc) for 8$. They have a great variety in their menu, for very cheap prices. The food tastes like it is made on the spot (maybe this is why the other reviewer's chimichangas took a while to come out?) The service is great and attentive, and the atmosphere of the place is relaxed - not too smart, not too trashy.
Definitely give this place a chance for a nice meal before or after the movies, or just for a nice Sangria. hey, even if you decide you don't like it, you would have only spent 10$ on your dinner! As for me, I know I will be back here many more times....
Across the Board a waste of time. If you are looking for decent Mexican food, do not walk into the doors of 879 taco. The food is a poor excuse for Mexican. The last time I went, the service was terrible. The food took 20 minutes to come out(for a chimmichanga), during which time there was one table visit, then the food came, which was wrong, and at the end of the meal, they still charged us for the "slow cooked" chimmichanga. I would have tried to get it off, but to try to get the waitress again was too frustrating. If you want good Mexican, go to Florenia 13(Californian Approved). The only reason there is a 1 rating is that the people showed up to work.
Friendly, flexible, homey. I had my daughter's 13th birthday party here. With 25 people, we pretty much took over the restaurant. They have a great deal - last I checked, $11.95 pp including appetizers, entrees and unlimited soda. They let us bring our own iPod and allowed us to move the tables back for dancing. The owner, managers and staff were great - they really seemed to enjoy watching the kids, who had a blast. We wound up having mostly appetizers and they were very fresh and delicious - salads and quesadillas. Special mention to Edgar, the manager, who was our host for the evening. He was fabulous.
great vibe. Ever since the manager bought this place it really gets better every day. I been going here for years and have seen the changes, but the one thing that hasn't change is the great food and warm and friendly service you get every time. Go in and ask for the owner, he'll come out with a smile and a great story.
Delicious Mexican food at Tijuana prices on the Upper East Side..
The Scene
The colorful mismatched tables, sturdy second-hand chairs and decorative Spanish knickknacks aren't why patrons flock to this inexpensive eatery. In fact, few customers actually stay to eat, which is why the takeout counter is sectioned off from the casual dining area. In the evenings, Upper East Side families bring their broods for $10 dinners. During the day, doctors, nurses and other staff from nearby New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center pop in for fast, satiating bites.
The Food
Although the Mexican menu is mundane--burritos, enchiladas, quesadillas, nachos, salads, tacos--the execution is marvelous. The chicken mole is especially tangy and the creamy guacamole is made to order. Don't skip the sweet, powerfully potent sangrias, which arrive by the pitcher or the glass. Homemade flan or rice pudding leaves a sweet aftertaste, assuming you have room to indulge.
The Worst!. Mexican food I've ever had. I live on the block, gave this place a second chance, after two bites, I tossed it. I honestly don't know how this place stays in business.
Good and healthy. Great place for lunch! Healthy and fresh Mexican food- I love the spinach quesadilla. Also, the staff is pretty friendly.
Delicious. The food at this cozy little joint is FANTASTIC ! Their homemade salsas are "to die for." I always go for the Pork Tinga. You're missing out if you don't hit 879 TACO !
