Reminds me of Growing up in the South!. My cousin brought me here last summer after I moved to NYC from Florida. They were playing country music and I was instantly reminded of home! Whenever I'm craving some fried, southern food I head there.

Top 10 BBQ in the city. I heard a lot about Brother Jimmy's before I tried it recently. I heard the service was terrible and the atmosphere was a little like a frat house. I ended up sitting at the bar to try their ribs so I really can't comment on the waitstaff. The bartender was very friendly and made some great drinks. The ribs were also above average for the city but the sides were nothing earth-shattering. I know Brother Jimmy's makes a lot of people's Top Ten List for BBQ joints in the city and it would make mine as well for the ribs but it's hard to give it a complete review since I was only there once and ate at the bar. I would go back to try their pulled pork and brisket since the atmosphere was not nearly as bad as some people make it out to be. It's a fun place with good ribs.

Rude Staff. I don't want to speak for the whole staff, because there are a few nice bartenders. But there is a new waitress that was HORRIBLY rude to myself and my friends for no apparent reason. I don't reccommend going there on Thursday nights.

Good food, terrible service. I was warned about the service before I went in, so I knew it would be slow, even though it wasn't that full for a Friday evening in the back room. We did have to wait a long time, but the food was good (though I like Famous Dave's BBQ Sauce on Long Island better). But, when we asked for the check, we were charged $66 - and all the two of us had had was an $8.50 sandwich and $3 PBR each, and shared a slice of pie! So that obviously wasn't right (it was another table's receipt, with a $25 pitcher of beer and other stuff), and eventually we were able to catch the waitress's attention to bring us the right check, though it took forever. When she finally did bring it, it then had a $2.50 Coke on it that we didn't order, but we decided to pay for it to hold onto our sanity and not wait another eternity for her to take it off. If you're already in the area and like BBQ, sure, go for the food, but be prepared to wait forever, even if it's not that busy, and check your receipts!

Good Stuff. I go to the NYSC across the street from Jimmy's and order take out one day. I ordered the bbq sampler where i chose 3 types of ribs and 2 sides (fire fries and mac and cheese) I got the artichoke dip as well. I live 30-40 mins away on the subway. The food was eaten 2 hrs later and it was still good. The ribs were moist and juicy, the artichoke dip was great, the mac and cheese was creamy, but the fire fries were soggy probably because of the down time. I recommend this place if you live or travel around there. I went when the place was empty around 4ish in the afternoon. The food took 20 mins but thats a good thing when it comes to bbq.

White Trash Wednesday's Rule. I turned just 21 last Wednesday and my uncle surprised me with the most awesome birthday present. A night at BROTHER JIMMY'S!!!

FIrst, we took advantage of the great specials on Natural Light, only $1 a can. After we got into "partying mood" we ordered the all-you-can buffet. There were so many neat choices, you get 3 to choose from, but I went with 3 orders of meat-loaf. CRAZY RIGHT???!!! I love that stuff, I could have eaten 10 orders.

The waitress were really funny and then kept blowing whistles in my face when my uncle ordered the fish-bowl drink. My uncle is a great guy, and I owe him everything for introducing me to my new favorite restaurant. It's too bad he wasn't there to help me home when I woke up in an alley with no pants on.

Best Trash Can "Fish Bowl" ever had :). I'm not from the South, I'm even not from the States. So I can't really tell how a southern bar would look like. Anyway, I went to the Brother Jimmy's Bait Shack in the Upper East Side last year when I was doing a city trip to NYC. Together with a friend who lives in the city, we finished our night in this nice bar. The staff was very funny and friendly. Even the other cusommers were cool and friendly. But the best was the Trash Can "Fish Bowl" ;). We had a lot of fun with that special offer. I had a really great night. Next time I'm in New York I defitinely will visit the bar again.

Great Take out. As a Southern transplant now living in New York, I'm a huge HUGE fan of the delectable take out at this UES gem. Their mac and chesse is super tasty and the corn bread keeps you coming back from more. I personally recommend the hot or bbq wings. Their take-out service is top knotch-- always very nicely packed with seperate containers and all utensils, etc you need to enjoy your meal. I've never been in to the Bait Shack, but you should definitely think of them for take-out. Absolutely A+.
