Editorial Review for Phoenix Park – by Karen Hudes

The Scene
With plenty of seating and a toasty atmosphere, this Irish pub has all the fixings for a comfortable night. Mixed-age patrons relax under muted TVs at the B-shaped bar, shoot pool and play Golden Tee in back, and cluster in the side room around pushed-together tables and a recessed banquette (which fits about eight people). The varied menu includes good, greasy wings, calamari and onion rings, along with more substantial burgers, salads and pizza; the creamy Guinness is choice among 9 brews on tap and 11 bottles.

The Draw

During the holidays, fairy lights and white branches soften the decor of exposed brick, Irish beer posters and framed, autographed sports jerseys. Spring and summer, the wooden-decked garden opens up--and stays warm with heat lamps into the fall. Football season brings 10-cent wings on game nights.

Upon entering Phoenix Park, I thought it was a quaint local bar. Once I ventured further inside, I came to realize the place is much larger than I first thought. The staff is great! There was a great party celebrating the Belmont race and continued to celebrate into the night which warmed the place even more.

Pros: Funny bartender, friendly patrons

Not a bad place at all. It's basically a maze of rooms--the front room just looks like a regular bar. Head further inside to find the pool table, a lounge area, and even some tables out in the 'backyard'. The Nachos Grande are a safe bet as far as food is concerned.
