Bad cleaning services and careless with garments
by fasyed
These guys are really quite bad and unprofessional. Not sure why anyone would pay a premium to receive bad dry cleaning services. If you have nice suits they are certainly not your guys. I have had 2 separate experiences with them for dry cleaning my suits. The first time they just could not send them back without creases or without getting out the most basic stains. After 3 frustrating attempts I spoke to John Hallak who assured me he would look into it personally and that I should not let this experience affect my opinion of them. He took care of it. So I sent them another suit a of couple months later. This time it came back clean and well ironed but with a long snag along the fabric on the sleeve. They picked it up to have it fixed and I had to follow up with them for 2 months to try and get it back. I called John again and this time he told me that perhaps I should not send them anymore clothes. This guy should teach a course in customer service!! I finally get it back and it was repaired but they also happened to charge my credit card $150 for it. Probably the only cleaner that charges its customers to fix damages made by the cleaner. So of course I had to call them back to reverse the charges.
This place is over hyped and just not worth your time or money.
AVOID & BEWARE ...... HALLAK=SHYSTER
by newyork1970
SHAME on HALLAK! (1232 2nd Ave.) One of the worst experiences I've ever had with a dry cleaner anywhere! First, they advised my wife and I that they would examine our three garments to determine if they could be cleaned and then give us an estimate BEFORE proceeding so that we could decide if we wanted them cleaned.
Ten days later, one of the managers (Mark) called and said my wife's two garments had already been cleaned and cost $108. By phone, my wife and I discussed with Mark the fact that we were NOT called and would never have agreed to such a high cleaning price for her two garments. To make up for this error, Mark offered not to charge anything for her two "cleaned" garments and told me that my jacket cleaning would cost $75 if they were successful, $0 if not. I told him that I agree to those terms and that he should proceed.
Flash forward a week, and I received a call that the garments were ready to be returned. "Was my jacket successfully cleaned?," I asked. "I don't know," the Hallak employee responded. When the three garments were returned, we could see that ... my wife's garments (which at first Mark tried to charge us $108 for without approval) were NOT cleaned and clearly NO attempt to clean them had been made ... and my jacket was returned as I had sent it with a note saying I did not give approval to proceed with the cleaning!!! I called back and had another long discussion with another worker at the store, and she said they would pick up my jacket again tomorrow afternoon to proceed with the cleaning this time ($75 if successful, $0 if not). The pickup guy came hours earlier than the arrival time-range they gave me and of course the jacket was not picked up.
So, another call to yet another manager, Leah. This time the jacket was picked up. Everything was again clearly discussed regarding the cleaning of my jacket, and I reviewed with Leah the conversation and agreement that Mark had offered me, and to which I agreed ($75 if successful, $0 if not). I even attached a written note (to the hanger on which the jacket hung) giving my approval for the agreement that I had with Mark and Leah.
Finally, I thought, the confusion was over. But unbelievably, after yet another week I received a phone call from Rachel who said I had "outstanding bills." Incredulous, I called and learned that they were now trying to charge me for my wife's garments that were NOT EVEN TOUCHED let alone dry cleaned, and that they were trying to charge me for my jacket which they now admitted was not successfully cleaned, and which by THEIR offer should have cost me nothing.
So, for attempting to scam, double-deal, and bait-and-switch your customers .... HALLAK CLEANERS gets the SHYSTER OF THE YEAR AWARD. Beware ... Avoid at all costs ... and if for some reason you feel you must use them, get everything in writing, signed, and dated. NEGATIVE stars really.
(and if by yet another bizarre maneuver, someone from Hallak has the chutzpah to contest the accuracy of the above, don't believe it for a second.)
- Pros: none
- Cons: bait-&-switch, DIShonest, charged for garments not cleaned
5 star treatment!

If you don't bring your wedding dress to Hallak, it will for sure will be ruined!
I had a problem with a bustle they created for me, but they fixed it no charge! YOU NEED TO SPEAK UP IF SOMETHING IS WRONG! They don't have ESP and cannot tell if something is wrong with what they did for you. I was reading the other review about them and how she said they were horrible, I bet she never called them cause I bet they would have done something for her for free!
My friend had her dress done by the corner cleaner and it yellowed in less then a year because of the plastic window or something. Hallak took it in, fixed it up, and now my friend and I are still customers for our better clothing.
These guys are the best at what they do and I recommend them to everyone everywhere!
- Pros: Polite and caring staff.
- Cons: A litle pricy for my husband's Macy's shirts.
Hallak is HORRIBLE with wedding gowns!!
by amggrrl638
Hallak, "bridal experts" made my bridal tailoring experience a nightmare. They lost my dress, then recovered it, and then created a bustle that BROKE as soon as I got dressed on my wedding day. It couldn't be repaired; one of my friends had to sew my train to the back of my dress during the toasts. I highly recommend going elsewhere, Hallak is horrible!!!
- Pros: nice changing area
- Cons: EVERYTHING ELSE- they are incredibly unreliable
