CHEAP AND (POSSIBLY) CHIC. I go to Mayfair routinely -- at least once a week. Yes the setting is rundown and kinda yucky. Upside is, the predominantly Dominican staff here REALLY know how to do a great blowout. And it's (gasp) a $20, so you can come often and tip big. Consuelo and Ana (my favorites) are much better at blowing out my hair than the pricy salon I go to for cut and color. The secret's out: besides little old ladies, there are chic Upper East Side fashionistas galore here.

Avoid! You can get a better wash/blowdry and service elsewhere for not much more money!. I went here for a wash and blowout b/c it is inexpensive and had noticed the sign walking by. The salon is so dirty and run down. I felt like I needed to jump in the shower and wash my hair after leaving the place! The hair stylist burned my scalp and brushed my face several times. Seriously, there are so many inexpensive places on the upper east side to get a great blowout. Don't cheap out like I did. You really get what you pay for. Although the old ladies that get their hair set and styled do seem to enjoy the experience.
