What People Are Saying About Sunpoint Retreat

In Short – With nine UV beds, two spray booths and a name like Sunpoint, it's tempting to assume that this spa is primarily a tanning salon. But clients will also find five private massage and facial rooms, four manicure tables and three pedicure stations--and all services are reasonably priced. Thoughtful touches, such as a sand-and-ocean color scheme, pillows strewn throughout and a secluded pedicure room with comfy couches, round out the casual experience.

Good massage for the price
by aliceluong
This place is a bit hit or miss. They have very good massage therapists and very bad ones. I had a bad one, but spoke to the owner and she fixed the problem by setting me up with an excellent therapist. Polina is excellent! My husband also had a very good massage from their male therapist (can't remember the guy's name, but they only have one male therapist).
The best facial in NYC is at a tanning salon. REALLY!

I was feeling pretty stressed out from work and thought perhaps a pampering type activity was in order, so I clicked on Lifebooker Loot to see what specials they had. Sunpoint retreat was offering a a facial for just $40. I bought it thinking that even if I just laid in a dark room for 30 min., at that price, it was worth it. What I received was so much more! When I showed up, I was a little taken aback. The main business is a tanning salon, something I typically don't visit, however the lovely receptionist walked me to the back, where there is a spa, and introduced me to Irina, the facialist. I was offered water and Irina asked me several in-depth questions about my skin. What followed was an amazing 70 minute facial that was far better than facials I have paid over $200 for. After steaming my pores and cleansing my skin, she started the extractions. I think she covered every single pore on my face. One of my pet-peeves is going for a facial only to have the facialist do five extractions and call it quits. But Irina was extremely thorough and very informative, giving me great skin maintenance advice for my skin type. I think there may have been 5 masks that followed (all very high quality products), and she used the high frequency wand (which kills bacteria) to complete the service. She escorted me out and checked my skin again in the light - she really wanted to do a great job, and I appreciated it! She even reprimanded me when I touched my face, which is a nasty little habit of mine that no doubt contributes to my skin issues. I will definitely be back, and at the full price it is still a bargain. I highly recommend Sunpoint for facials, and suggest that you ask for Irina. Your will no doubt be impressed!!
not the best experience
by KatieLNY
I went to Sunpoint for a leg and Brazilian wax. It was an experience. I really was looking for a place to do some freshening up before my wedding. I received a discount and thought it was worth a try. Let me say that if this is your first time waxing, I would NOT recommend this place. There is absolutely no bedside manner, so you better be strong. I think my waxer said two words to me. Besides the expected pain, there was no soothing creme provided and I ended up plucking for an hour after I left. The lack of detail makes it a little frustrating. I would be more upset if I actually paid full price, so I describe it as "I got what I paid for."
Leave feeling relaxed

I wanted a tanning salon closer to work and the reviews for this one were fair, so I decided to try it. As long as I work in the area, I will be going here. The staff is friendly and willing to explain everything you need to know. Sometimes, they get carried away with one customer, and you just have to wait your turn. Not only do they have tanning, but you can get a massage, mani, pedi, and they sell jewelery. I always look forward to my weekly visits.
- Pros: Calm, friendly, and peaceful
- Cons: Slow service at times
Hidden Gem! Relaxing. Skilled Staff!

Right off unassumingly on First Avenue and 63rd street is a great day spa. The staff at Sunpoint are true professionals who listen to your individual needs and never "rush" you. My mani/pedi's last as long as 2 weeks, the various massages (esp. hot stone) has been nothing short of permanently relieving my bad lower back, and my waxing and facials has never irritated my sensitive skin. Their spray tan is also the very best in the city. Very relaxing when in there, and feel energized afterwards!
- Pros: Skilled Therapists, Spray Tan, Massages...Quality!
