Editorial Review for Fortunoff – by Jennifer Howze

The Scene
In 1922, Max and Clara Fortunoff opened a low-priced neighborhood housewares store under an elevated Brooklyn subway. Thirty-five years later, Fortunoff added fine jewelry and watches to its wares, kicking off its reputation as a jeweler. Now, with crystal, mirrors and sparkling tableware added too, the Fifth Avenue flagship bustles like a department store and glitters like a tiara.

The Goods
Think of this as the perfect place to get whatever you don't need. A 14-karat gold poodle charm? But of course. An ostentatious candelabra? Right this way. Some dinnerware depicting a milkmaid and a cow? Here's just the right Villeroy Boch china. The nice surprise is the affordability of some of the understated merchandise. Let Gwyneth Paltrow wear the $19,000 Codiam necklace from the jewelry department, and pick up your silver platters here. Fortunoff also buys estate jewelry by appointment.

User Reviews for Fortunoff

5 Star Rating: Highly Recommended

I love Fortunoff and dont understand how it got such a bad rating. The store is a 3/4- story collection of jewerly, bridal sets, gifts, and tea sets. On the first floor is the more expensive jewerly, the second is watches, and the 3/4 is children's jewerly, bridal gifts, and my favorite- gifts for myself and others! They have the most adorable sets of jewerly boxes, ornated mirrors, gold dipped eggs, and whatever else you are looking for. Its hard to discribe, but its a good store. Plus the prices are very reasonable, the gift wrapping is beautiful, the service is great, and they offer cookies and coffee! Oh and Sharapova was there ( yes! that one!) 3 days ago so it cant be that bad!

Pros: great prices, rare items, amazing everything!

Cons: parking is impossible
