“Not only was the price appalling for simple work but the work was also deeply sub-par: the five new pairs of pants came back to me at varying lengths all of which were too short and the pants to be adjusted in the waist were not fitted properly either.”
Honestly . . .. I've been going to this for 9 years already from Brooklyn to Ignacio's. I've been to many other tailor's and I've taken all my friends to this one (Ignacio's Tailor.) Now they all recommend to there friends too ! Out of all these 9 years i havent had any problems with anything exept for the small things like buttons or other small things. This has been the best Tailor that i've been to. Everyone else that is saying how its bad and stuff might not be able to afford it and are just bullshiting. Everyone I know trust this tailor and has no problems with it. For your solutions, I recommend it 99% . Greatt Tailor !
the "best" tailor?.
I've been going to Ignacio's for 8 years as they are 2 blocks from my office They are touted as the best in the city, Prada, Pucci, etc recommend them.
But in the last 2 years their service has been dropping off. They returned a dress without completing the work (which I did not discover until I went to put it on to go to a funeral); a simple jacket repair was not ready when it was supposed to be, they did not delivery it the day before thanksgiving as promised, and when I tried to call them there was no answer.
Their work, when they do it is phenomenal. But simple things like shortening jeans take 2 weeks. I've now found someone who is closer to my apartment who is a real tailor, works fast and is much less expensive.
I agree : avoid this tailor. OK -- I wish I had read the negative reviews more carefully but this tailor came so highly recommended by a friend that I went uptown and out of my way to bring two pieces. First of all -- after all the pinning and fitting the work came back to me half done and I ended up paying a fortune to have a two simple seams done. Needless to say I cannot wear either item. This was an infuriating exerience
This tailor is 30%-50% above average and with no real justification.
Their work is OK, but there are so many other tailors in the city that do the exact same level of work for a lot less.
This is mostly because they are right near Bloomingdales, Barneys and all the designer stores on madison Ave.
For example, I had a Paul Smith shirt taken in. These guys charged me $47. That is nuts!!!
That was the first and last shirt I do here.
KEEP AWAY FROM THIS TAILOR.
I had such a poor experience at Ignacio's that I felt compelled to write my first review of anything ever.
I took five pairs of pants I got at Neiman and a few other pairs that needed to accomodate my newly expanded waistline. Not only was the price appalling for simple work but the work was also deeply sub-par: the five new pairs of pants came back to me at varying lengths all of which were too short and the pants to be adjusted in the waist were not fitted properly either. Mind you, I paid over $220 all in for alterations that didn't even fit and clothes that were ruined.
I haven't even bothered to go back to insist they fix the work as these guys are completely incompetent as tailors and actually cut material from the new pants despite my insisting that they do no such thing (I have tons of experience with tailors as everything I wear is either custom or tailored bc of my build as a former athlete) thus those pants are ruined. they can now only be lengthened maximum about an inch which still renders 3 of the 5 pair too short. They ruined 3 pairs of $400+ pants and did not even complete the modest task that any barely competent tailor would be able to accomplish.
KEEP AWAY FROM THIS TAILOR!!!
Terrific Tailors!. Lets just say that after a very well known Madison Ave. bridesmaids store ordered the girls dresses two sizes too big, I luckily went to Ignacio and had the girls dresses fixed! The dresses fit like a glove! I was so worried that the dresses would lose their pizzaz as so much work needed to be done, but their skillful hands proved me wrong! Let me add that these dresses were all tailored two weeks before the big day without a hitch! They're awesome!!!!
Great Tailor. They are skilled, quick and reasonably priced. A hidden gem literally steps from Bloomingdales. My boyfriend took me there once and I've only gone to Ignacio's since. They are the best at hemming jeans and re-attaching the hem to look perfect on you. This costs a little more then any other tailor I've been to previously, but absolutely worth it. Usually takes only 5-7 days for most things, but once i was in a rush to get a suit take in for an interview and they did it in 2 days, no problem. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
Best of the Best. Don't let the poor experience of the other reviewer knock this shop. If Ignacio is sooo bad, then why does practically every 5th & Madison Avenue designer choose him for their serious alterations. He will warn you beforehand whether or not something will work, they have NEVER ruined any of my over 100 pieces, Pricing is great, especially when compared with all of these fakes around the city who profess everything and know nothing, and he is extremely knowledgeable about reweavers, fabric and accessory shops, etc... Ignacio gone out of his way to let me know exactly something will come out, even with those dangerous pieces.......for which I have had to make the final decision. Moreover, all of the clothing that Ignacio's has worked on, some over 10 years ago, have never lost a thread or a button.
Don't go here!. I needed sleeves shortened on a Prada coat. Prada recommended this tailor so I went with confidence. The sleeves had buttons making it difficult to shorten without removing the bottom button. I was OK with this but he said to shorten them at the shoulder - preventing change to the style. I was concerned this would ruin the pleated shoulder. I told him to MAKE sure he could duplicate it exactly - otherwise remove the button. I was shocked when I saw the shoulders -- no pleats and they were crooked and lumpy! I expressed my displeasure - and they said they thought pleats looked old fashioned and it looked better without them. I said I paid for that style! They said they were sorry and I did not have to pay for the work. They offered to put pleats in but said it was likely to look worse.
