“It's hard to find an affordable, yet great restaurant in this area, but we finally found one.”
Arrabiata Sauce to Die For. I thought Luna Piena was outstanding. Located on a block with tons of restaurants covering several ethnic cuisines, Luna Piena may not have been my first choice originally. But I purchased a Restaurant (dot) com certificate ahead of time and I'm quite glad I did. We started out with some free bread (a nice assortment) and olives with lentils (awesome!), and we split a bottle of pinot grigio. I ordered the gnocchi, and while it usually comes with a cream-based sauce, I asked for arrabiata sauce instead and I was so pleased! The gnocchi were perfect - soft, light and pillowy - and the sauce...I just wish I could bottle it and take it home. I honestly would have eaten it with just a spoon if I didn't like the gnocchi so damn much. My friends were pleased as well - a nice linguine with clams dish (loved that it came with cherry tomatoes) and eggplant parm (not on the menu but they were more than accommodating). When it's all said and done, this place is a must-return to spot for me, with or without a Restaurant (dot) com certificate. But if I can save $25 in the process, why not?
Very Reasonable and Excellent Service. We chose this restaurant from Restaurant dot com. It had almost no restrictions and it was in an excellent location, which was important as I was coming from out of town and I don't really know my way around. My wife ordered chicken parmesan and I had a roasted pork dish which was the special for the night. I was also in the mood for some fresh pasta. I can honestly say it was one of the finest meals I have eaten in a long time. My wife even ate most of the pasta side dish and she nevers eats pasta. I would absolutely refer this restaurant to both locals and those coming in from out of town. I would also mention that our server Chiago was excellent also.
Phenomenal Food. I have been to this restaurant on many occasions and recently celebrated my husband's 65th birthday there. Everyone had a time of their life! The food was excellent and the service from Luigi and his staff was of an extremely high standard. Luigi and his group made everyone feel so welcome and at home. I will definitely use this restaurant again for a similar event.
Simply THE BEST. I went here with my closest friend recently. The most amazing food, excellent service. Luigi is just the best at what he does. It was so good we went back the following day!!! This place is definitely a MUST!!! Do not miss it.
very nice value. We wanted a place near their hotel (East 50s), and Zagat led us here. The "terrace" is more an air-conditioned area with a semi-permanent tent covering. Pretty casual - a mix of families, older people, and a ladies' night on a Sunday night. The food was tasty and quite reasonable. I had the eggplant parmigiana appetizer (huge!) and the Luna Piena salad (arugula with pears, blue cheese, and walnuts). Mom had the bucatini - excellent tomato sauce, cooked to al dente perfection. Dad enjoyed the veal -- devoured it all. An interesting wine list - many Sicilian options. Tasty little cookies came free with our coffee. A nice option if you're in that part of town.
my new favourite Italian place. We were walking by and found this exceptional place in my neighborhood. Luigi- the manager of the place invited us inside promising the great food and atmosphere and we didn't get dissapointed! We sat in the garden right next to the wall waterfall and started off with great Italian wine followed by delicious homemade pasta dishes. The service was very warm and friendly. The whole impression- 10 points! We'll definitelly come back.
Good meal but no sparks.. The pastas are pretty good and the service is fine. The wine list is quite extensive and appropriately priced. This is a good cozy place to come visit on a cold wintery evening. While this restaurant will not shine with extreme creativity or superb quality, it is, nevertheless, a very reliable choice for a decent meal.
Great Food Supported by a Great Wine List. I think this place has everything I want in an italian restuarant. The food was excellent, I had the osso buco and it rocked. The antipaste was also excellent. The wine list is thorough enough so that you can have the correct drink to complement your meals. The ambiance is great with an outdoor dining area in the middle of the restuarant covered by an awning. A smaller venue, but not quite a hole in the wall joint. Prices are good too, for two people with antipaste, main meal, desert w/coffee and a bottle of wine cost us about $100.
Great food and prices. I work in midtown and have been to luna piena many times for lunch and dinner. The food never fails to be delicious and the portions are just right. They have the best linguine vongole ever. Service is good. And I love eating in their charming garden when the weather is nice.
Excellent meal at an excellent price. We went for valentines day and had an incredible meal. The appetizer was great--large porition and delicious. The main courses were both excellent as well. A large, affordable wine list topped off the experience. The back "garden" atmostphere was very nice and service was good. For a great Italian meal at a very good price, I highly recommend this place.
