The Scene
Shun Lee Palace is popular with midtown locals, possibly because the upscale room means you can impress a client and have Chinese for lunch at the same time. The decor features an effective mix of Asian and modern art, and service is so attentive that it verges on fawning.
The Food
An appealing blend of elegance and flavor: Even basics such as wonton soup are complex and flavorful. The rich and generously-portioned hacked chicken and the tender, meaty duckling with ginger are both particularly good. A "spa menu" means that even dieters can find something they're willing to eat. Prices reflect the opulence of the room and service.

This is my all time favorite place for BEİJİNG duck. I've been coming here for years and yes sometimes I wait like an idiot for the damn BEİJİNG duck. No other place in NY makes it better. It tastes o so very good with the plum sauce. I always ask for extras and they usually just give you this one tiny container. O wells better than nothing. I think I can really sit and eat the whole duck myself. Eat it while its still warm its the freaking best. . O my I'm getting hungry. I cant wait anymore.

For a gourmet restaurant I was not overly impressed with the quality of the food. My main course was served on the cold side as was the appetizer. Maybe this particular restaurant decided to serve sub par meals for restaurant week or old left overs. I certainly felt like I was having left overs. I could have gotten this meal for $15 at my neighborhood Chinese restaurant. The seafood rice was horrible. It had a strange/fishy smell and was served over cooked, more like seafood goo. The meal I ordered (so unimpressive I can't even remember the name) consisted of pan fried noodles absolutely drowned in overpowering brown sauce. The chicken was barely cooked. Try another restaurant if you're looking for high class gourmet Chinese food or better yet, just order take out and save yourself $75. Unless of course you want four or five servers hovering around your table when you eat.

I've been to this restaurant twice, once with a party of four and once with a party of 12. The service is excellent and the food is delicious. I especially like how they plate the food. I recommend it for a date or a large group.
