Pita Grill isn't that bad. – I actually work at Pita Grill & the food isn't half bad. For the person who said that the food is "overpriced", that's the OLD MENU. We have a new menu now, next time, try lookin at that before you look down upon a resturant. Thanks.
Citysearch Editorial Review – You're welcome to sit down to eat at this health-focused fast food spot in midtown, but don't expect to be wowed by your surroundings. The place is primarily designed to facilitate takeout orders. A quirky menu reflects several different cuisines including Mexican (fajitas), Italian (Tuscan chicken) and Thai (chicken stir fry), but leans mostly toward Greek with assorted hummus dishes, spinach pies, baba ganoush (grilled eggplant with tahini, garlic and lemon) and a feta cheese dip. There's also a solid selection of standard items like salads and burgers. What ties the vast offerings together is the emphasis on healthy cooking techniques (baking rather than frying) and ingredients.
This Place is Not Going to Last Much Longer – Are you kidding me? Pathetic. Super over-priced for what you get. I ordered the $10 veggie pita that comes with grilled veggies, olive spread, & goat cheese. There were hardly any vegetables in it. A lot of it was empty pita, and the rest had a very thin layer of vegetables. You could barely taste the olive spread because there was practically none in it. The goat cheese was also spread on like a thin layer of butter, but at least you could taste it most of the time. I'm shocked they've stayed in business this long. I used to eat at there other location further down 2nd Ave., but since then they've jacked their prices up, and cut way back on portion size. I will never eat here again. I feel like I was robbed. This more like a $4 or $5 sandwich than $10, even for Manhattan prices. I'm still hungry, and I'm a 5'6" 110 lb female. I've lived here a long time, and am used to eating out & spending money at nice restaurants, etc. I don't know if I've ever felt the price of something was so comical as I felt after eating here.
Pathetic Grill – A full 60 minutes for delivery that is precisely 10 blocks away, AFTER lunch rush & DURING fair weather (3 pm). Order incomplete & the part that arrived (Veggie Athena) literally looked like slime, as so loudly announced by my co-worker. I contact the store to have them deliver the rest of my order (Pita Chips) as I am starving & have too much to do to even get to the restroom, let alone to get food. I was told the order would arrive within 30-40 minutes (4:45 PM at the latest). I contact them at 4:51 PM only to find that the person who said they would send the rest of the order had left for the day & did not send the order. The new person said they would send it immediately. That was 4:55 PM.
Now, more than 120 minutes after I orginally ordered (it is now 5 minutes to 6 PM), the remainder of my order arrives. Yes, it is absolutely deplorable. I cannot express to you enough of how much these people need to close shop & find the Ringling Bros., as they clearly are clowns & not chefs/restauranteurs. Seriously, order at your own risk. There are a million better ways to waste your money.
Food was weak. – Ordered for delivery, service was ok. Ordered several appetiezers/sides and a few sandwiches. Across the board pretty weak food. The low fat hummus resembled pureed carrots you'd feed to babies. The sandwiches were sloppy and hard to eat. Will probably look elsewhere in the future.
OK FOOD, HORRIBLE SERVICE – I recently went to Pita Grill (2nd Ave. between 50th & 51st) for lunch with my boyfriend and had the worst dining experience. The food was OK at best and the service was terrible. I asked to have some onions on the side of my platter and 15 minutes later the waitress informed us that the chef said he would not be able to accomodate our request (it was literally a few pieces of cut onions!) I was completely shocked and probed as to the rationale and she said that the chef was not willing to "adjust the menu". I asked to speak to a manager and some woman behind the cash register rudely dismissed the request. An additional 10 minutes went by and the waitress said that they would be able to give us the onions for an additional charge. When we got the bill we were charged $3 for 3 rings.
If the food was outstanding, I could have dealt with the service issues but it was bland, undercooked and mediocre. I would recommend Al Bustan orTurkish Kitchen (more high end though) any day.
I would never come here again and would highly recommend other patrons look at alternative restaurant options. I am typically not this critical and always give places the benefit of the doubt but it was a real disappointment.
DO NOT EAT AT PITA GRILL OR DONT PAY WITH CREDIT OTHERWISE YOU MIGHT GET A DIFFERENT CHARGE THAN WHATS ON THE SALES RECIEPT – I ordered a goat cheese salad with an add on of fennel encrusted salmon at their 9th ninth street store. When I got back to the office to eat the salad it was missing their main ingredient, goat cheese. I called the store to tell them about the mishap and the woman said she would send a delivery guy over with the goat cheese. She took down all the information, my name, the place I work, and my phone number and said that the delivery man would call when he arrived. He never did. I called the store back to speak with a manager, and was told that they had stepped out and would be back in 5 minutes. Apporximately 15 minutes later I called back frustrated that I still hadn't eaten my lunch. I told the woman forget it that I wanted my money back. She finally agreed to credit my card. The next day I checked my bank statement. Well intead of getting credited the money, the store charged me more than what my reciept stated, so instead of spending $15.75 for the salad, I wound up spending $18.90. I spoke with the general manager on several occasions to get my credit and they seem real nice on the phone agreeing to give back the money. It's been a week and 6 phone calls without any satifaction. For that kind of money I could have at least ordered a beer with the salad.
DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT order from the Pita Grill on 81st / 2nd!!!!!! – I placed an order at Pita Grill tonight at 7:30pm. An HOUR later, I still had not received my food (keep in mind that I live on 78th St, three blocks away from this place). I called the store, only to be placed on hold for a full TEN minutes. Frustrated, I called again and was put on hold for another five. This is the sort of place where the person who picks up the phone says hurriedly, "Pita Grill, hold" - and then you are put on hold for a VERY long time. My food finally came one hour and 10 minutes later. The food was awful - the feta cheese dip was too chunky and salty, not well-balanced with the dill. The vegetable and goat cheese panini was cold (a shocker, considering the food was delivered an hour and ten minutes late), and only had two kinds of vegetables in it...and a little sprinkle of goat cheese.
Needless to say, this place will NEVER have my business again. Do NOT order from here. The management is horrific and your food will come late and disgusting.
Great healthy light meals! – The Pita Grill has something for everyone, a great take-out, order in or eat-in, from falafels to kebabs, salads to the best hummus and cucumber dip... very healthy eating as well! and affordable too!
