perfect example of an underhanded restaurant

by loverofNYCfood

san pietro is in midtown so i expected high prices but when the bill came out to $200 for 2 people and we didn't even get a bottle of wine or dessert, i simply felt cheated... for a fine dining restaurant to act so tacky and underhanded is unheard of...

first of all, the entire waitstaff rushes you, initially when they seat you they already expect you to have a drink order and when they give you a menu, they want to take your order in the next 2 minutes... its a grand total of 4 minutes in between the time you sit down and the time it takes for them to pressure you to order...

the waiter forces specials on you, adn then re-recommends the specials when you order an item from the menu... stick to the menu, that way even if the food is overpriced at least you know what you're paying for...

the food is good, but no where near justifiable as compared to the price... i've eaten at many good italian restaurants in the city: Babbo, Bar Pitti, De Andrea, etc and all of them are just as good and cost no where near as much

the bill might as well be in another language: a bunch of illegible scribbles w/ the total amount circled and underlined..

my gf and I had the calamari salad appetizer, 2 entrees, 2 glasses of wine and 1 latte and the bill was $170

32 for 2 glasses of decent pinot grigio?

9 for a latte?

It's not so much the total cost as it was the way they did it... underhanded, sneaky, quickly... take your business elsewhere and you'll have a much more pleasant dining experience... don't fall into the same trap i did

  • Pros: food
  • Cons: noisy, overpriced, underhanded, rude waitstaff, no value, pushy

An ideal Southern Italian dining experience!

by oznette

I dined at San Pietro on 1/31/07 and had a wonderful experience. From the moment we entered, we were treated as royalty. Service was impeccable and each dish was perfectly described. The food is excellent - perfect seasoning and wonderful touches such as white truffles sliced over fettucine tableside. The venison chop was superb and portions were a perfect amount for each person at the table - 3 men and a woman. The menu is a bit hard to read (as it is on their website), but the variety leaves the diner wondering how to narrow their choices to just a few things. Wines were perfect as recommended and it was a pleasure to enjoy the wine in perfectly sized glassware. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
