Serendipity 3

Life is too short to eat boring food!

  • Best Desserts in NYC
  • Brunch, Lunch, & Dinner Menu
  • Created Frrrozen Hot Chocolate

A cozy palace where dream-sized desserts and ice cream parlor whimsy lull you into a fantasy of another day and age. Here you can buy a Tiffany lamp or teddy bear, dine on a hot dog or caviar, and sit at a table that Marilyn Monroe, Bette Davis, Andy Warhol,or Jackie Kennedy once sat at. Since 1954, the landmark Serendipity 3, has served delicious comfort food in a unique and entertaining setting. Whimsical dishes such as "Young Chicken Sandwiches", "Curried Chicken Almondine Casserole", "Bi-Sensual Burger",& "Madame Butterfly Pasta" has made ordering almost as fun as eating! The oxy-moronic Frrrozen Hot Chocolate is one chilly bowl of magnificence that renders the place a must visit. Lovers have proposed over it, & diets have been broken over it. From the "Can't Say No Sundae" to "YuDuFunDu", the desserts at Serendipity will satisfy the sweet tooth of all.

Editorial Review for Serendipity 3 – by Helen Zelon

The Scene
Nestled in the heart of the Upper East Side, Serendipity 3 could hardly be in a snugger, safer or more mainstream spot. The clean white walls, complemented by Tiffany-style lighting, create a welcoming, easygoing warmth.

The Food
The restaurant is primarily a dessert spot, but the food--which is served in portions as generous as the desserts--is simple and tasty, from soups, salads, crepes and pasta to hot dogs and burgers. Nonetheless, the real star remains dessert--sublime, sinful and massive. Aficionados swear by the frozen hot chocolate, made from no fewer than 14 kinds of chocolate ground into a rich slush. Linger over a root beer float or watch your banana split melt into milky oblivion--your kids will be blissed out in creamy sweet abandon.

Three of us were there today. The waiter was so nice and sweet. The so called the best Hot frozen chocolate is so so, but the apple pie was so good. We had a good time there but don't want to come back again.

Pros: big name

Cons: the ice cream isn't match the name

I was so excited to fianlly get to go to NYC and being a fan on the Food network and hearing what a cool place this was I made my reservations. 2 months in advance btw, being very aware of the fact that they did not allow for stroller in the restaurant I made arrangements with an attendent at a parking garage across the street to hold it for us so we could dine. The restaturant however made no mention that they do not make any accomodations for children under the age of about 5. And they are not ashamed to make there disdain apprent for small children as well. I bet they dont treat the Rich and Famous's children with such attitude, disregaud, and disrespect. All the information I received about this place gave me the impression that this would be a neat place to take kids. The staff was really horrible, they were rude unattentive and there were "critters" crawling all over the place and instead of reseating us they just got a napkin, exterminated and cleaned them up it was completely GROSSSSSS. I was to understand that they were closed by the health inspector about a month later and remained that way for about 2-3 months. Rude Staff and even ruder owners. the only highlight to the afternoon was seeing Betsy Johnson leaving about the same time as we were. She was so gracious and kind, and appreciative of my not make a scene.

Pros: NONE, the only thing good about this place is its a landmark

Cons: Staff, Management, critters
