Becoming an old friend. On our second trip (of many, we hope) from London to NY we wanted somewhere chilled, attractive and undemanding near our hotel in the East 50s, for that first night, when our bodies were telling us that 8pm in NY was actually 1am in London! Brasserie gave us great food and wine with attentive service, so did it for us with room to spare. (See my separate, less flattering, review of nearby Montparnasse, where the host just ignored us.) For wine I recommend their chilled white Macon Villages, whilst the house steaks were well done, just as we love them! Service was attentive, but not intrusive. Fully-priced, but hey, live a little!

Nothing noteworthy except the desserts. With so many other restaurants in the city, I would have no reason to return to Brasserie. I did not care for the decor/ambiance at all. It had a sort of futuristic/spaceship feel, but then had a "walkway" of sorts down into the restaurant. I guess the walkway is supposed to "hip" or something. And the restaurant is at first sort of hidden from view when you first enter. The coatcheck has no tables or chairs in the area, so when you are handed your coat, sweater, scarf, and then you have your pocketbook, you have no choice but to throw your stuff on the floor as you can't possibly put all your stuff on AND hold your bags/pocketbook at the same time. Not very good planning on their part.

The bathrooms and the stairs to it were not particularly nice.

I got the cauliflower/leek soup. I did not taste any leeks. Overall, the soup was extremely average, like something I'd pick up for lunch somewhere near my office. I also got the lamb shank with beans. While very tasty, the dish was too "heavy". They should have accented the heavy lamb with something that would help to "cut" the heaviness of it....perhaps some lemon peel... It was just too heavy a dish. I tried some of my sister's tuna tartare (or something like that). I've had better.

The only thing I can say is that the desserts were excellent. I consider myself a real dessert connoisseur, and the dessert chef at this place was excellent. I tried my sister's 3-chocolate sampler or whatever, and my mom's chevre cheesecake with fig. Both were excellent.

But I would never go back here.

Great food in a fun, funky atmosphere!. I went here on Friday night. The place is really nice. My friends and I shared a bunch of appetizers and it was great. The mussels were unbelievable. The cheese plate was perfection. The chocolate desserts were so amazing, I wish I didn't have to share them!

Also, the wine list is impressive and the staff were fun, friendly and knowledgable. This was a great night out, I look forward to going back!

We LOVED it!. I was here over the weekend with some friends. We just wanted a fun night out and did we get one!! Friendly, professional service, and the food...I highly recommend all of it!! The mussels in cream sauce, the crab cake, the tuna cru, and you MUST try the mini burgers from the bar menu. They were perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned. Did I mention perfect?! Finish up with a chocolate dessert, and don't forget the cocktails! Definitly a great choice!

Whoa!! BRASSERIE STILL DELIVERS!!!. I cannot believe that after all these years Brasserie still delivers!! Wow to the Rib Eye! The service was great despite the restaurant being packed at around 7:30. Apps were great, the place looked ultra-cool, love the TV's with shots of the guests coming in! Oh, and the desserts were spectacular, save room.

Great customer sevice. Customer service is great. Wait staff is attentive and helpful. Great deco, it really does make you feel like you're in another world. Food was great, especially the dessert. Portions were small, but satisfying. All in all, a good experience.

the only thing we liked about this place was the loaf of bread they put on your table at the begining.. I was so dissapointed at the food in this restaurant. The service was non existant, we had to return our lobster bisque as it was luke warm at best. Our main courses of bouillabaise was average at best; and we had to return the chocolate beignets as they were totally uncooked inside. It was uncooked chocolate dough. When we told our waiter this, his repply was, Do you know what beignets are?" i should have answered" yeah they are fried dough dumplings , but cooked ones, not uncooked. Needless to say, i wont be returning in the near future.

Overhyped overpriced.. Went for lunch.Service friendly but slow as molasses. Food was OK but came out cold. Had to ask 3 times for water. Bread was a small baguette plopped down on table without a basket.

Had the lunch cost $10.00 I'd return; but at $90.00 for 2 people, there are so many restaurants that are head and shoulders above this place that I won't go back.

The Good Reviews Are Scams. The majority of people who gave this restaurant an EXCELLENT review also gave "Excellent reviews" to all of the establishments that are part of RESTAURANT ASSOCIATES...Just look at the Profiles of the reviewers and look at the other restaurants they have reviewed...Its all a scam...I have eaten at the majority of these restaurants and please....How good can they be if they are willing to take $50 off your check for your birthday? Sub-Par at food at best at all of these establishments...What a joke.

Brasserie: simply the worst service with good food!. Couple of friends visiting from out of town and always wanted to try this place. The food was well made and flavorful (Rib Eye). The kitchen staff prepared our steak perfectly along with its delicious appetizers. But our server was just bad simply put. I can only use the analogy of giving a gift, a diamond in a card broad box! What went wrong: (1) waiter didnt even know anything about their cocktail (types of vodka available), (2) avoided to check on our table periodically, (3) second wine order didnt come to us until quarter of the way into our entree and (4) we had to wait more then ? hour after our entree were done until our table was cleaned and given our desert menu (which we had to wait again). Go somewhere else - this city has great Brasserie establishments with par food quality with superior service.
