“The entrance area for plants and ceramic flowerpots is fun to browse, and you can pick up nice gifts (many in the $50-$80 range) in the Tea Box downstairs.”
“The store is small, so it is very easy to navigate, plus the Teabox Cafe on the bottom floor has the best lunch on 5th Avenue for a day of shopping; light yet filling and very delicious.”
“My favorite store in New York City!”
“the staff was extremely helpful and knowledgeable.”
“Things are pretty expensive, but the quality and originality of their items are unmatched by any other department store in the city.”
I worked for Takashimaya and must say that it was heartbreaking when it closed it's doors. One of the greatest things that we were given in return of our hard work was the ability to make sure our clients were always satisfied and on behalf of myself the ability to wrap the traditional takashimaya way always and forever..... It is deeply missed and glad I came across this site to read the many kinds words shared knowing we done a good job.
Another Beautiful Shopping Experience Gone. Takashimaya closed its doors. What a heartbreak. The store was exquisite, sophisticated and quiet. No bling, no woman in dirty sneakers (or clean sneakers). Just high end clothing, sleepware, bedding, fragrances, makeup, giftware and the most heavenly place to tea. Now its Forever 21 which is primarily another name for discount Schlock. Even the GAP looks good in comparison. Forever 21, please die a slow and pennilless death.
The most exquisite store in New York. Although I've always ranked Bergdorf's & Barneys highest in my pantheon of shopping meccas, I may have to make a special emeritus place for Takashimaya. This is quite simply the most exquisite store in New York. The design sensibility is very Asian although they represent surprisingly few Asian designers (Yeoh Lee, Eun Hwa of Paris are only a handful). Most of the designers carried are European or French Canadian - I am NOT complaining! Everything here is exquisite. The look is discreet luxury - this is not the place to find gilded Versace or high-bling looks (which can be fun and have their place). Functional design, architectural nuance, textural wit - these are the hallmarks of the clothing and accessories Takashimaya carries. I can spend hours happily browsing this store. And the Tea Box cafe is an oasis of delicious foods and teas in the intensity of Manhattan.
Fab Merchandising, Lunch @ The Tea Room.
Exquisite merchandising - each floor different and equally as beautiful. Who needs to buy when you can window shop here!
And don't miss the tea room in the basement. Expensive, but glorious food in a soothing atomosphere.
Unusual and exotic items for the Eastern-influenced cosmopolite..
The Scene
This Osaka-based retailer's store is compact, assertively stylish and loaded with neat stuff. Six floors, stocked with everything from green seaweed flakes to chic clothing to fresh flowers, keep browsers rapt for hours. First-floor art installations reinforce the idea of store as cultural experience.
The Goods
Gadget freaks gravitate toward the second-floor array of shiny cameras and trendy sunglasses, while beauty aficionados swoon over prestige brands like Czech & Speake nestled up against off-beat products like Eau de Botot (billed as the world's first mouthwash, invented in 1755). Survey the lifestyle you so richly deserve on the home furnishings floor. Then pop down to the basement to buy tea accessories and take refreshment at the Tea Box Cafe.
Valentines Day Misery!!!!. My Boyfriend ordered roses and paid nearly $300 on Feb. 13th for V-day. On the 14th at 4:45pm they called and said that my BF had ordered flowers and their delivery guy was very close and begged me to wait for him. I sat in my office waiting and he didn't arrive, so I left the office at 6pm. The roses didn't arrive until the 15th at 3:30pm. My boyfriend was so upset and he told them that he would be paying for the flowers, I ended up getting an arrangement that was not even half the size it was supposed to be. He ordered from Takashimaya because of their reputation for high quality flowers, and beautiful and unusual arrnagements. Takashimaya is now the unreliable company that ruined my Valentines Day and sent me a dissapointing arrangement a day late.
best depaato in nyc. Takashimaya has a beautiful assortment of antique, contemporary, Japanese and European things that you can eat, wear, look at and use. The service is also some of the best in the city. I recently spent an hour looking at makeup with Reiko - she was helpful and unpretentious. If not for yourself go there to get gifts. The wrapping and presentation is absolutely gorgeous.
TERRIBLE DELIVERY SERVICE. Flowers that were supposed to be delivered on Valentine's Day never arrived.
Beautiful!. Takashimaya is such a gorgeous store with unique items and a dedicated staff. The store is small, so it is very easy to navigate, plus the Teabox Cafe on the bottom floor has the best lunch on 5th Avenue for a day of shopping; light yet filling and very delicious. Things are pretty expensive, but the quality and originality of their items are unmatched by any other department store in the city.
A little of Asia right here in NYC!. who says NY only replicates quaint little shops of Europe. Takashimaya is the best! although a bit small, this store offers the best items and presents them all so beautifully. AND customer service is second to none. the staff was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. even their gift wrap is gorgeous!
