The Scene – After a $100 million conversion, this hotel--one of five Ws in the city--draws a chic, international, young crowd who enjoy the cutting-edge casual style. Guests lounge in the signature "living room" space on sofas and chairs in front of the fireplace or play chess on the tree-stump gaming tables. Organic touches expressive of feng shui's design philosophy are found in the kota stone flooring, schist counters and a variety of woods. – – The Details – The 688 rooms and suites offer sumptuous beds with down comforters, pillows and chenille throws. Another Great W Experience in an Amazing Neighborhood
by thebottlelife
First and foremost, hands down, best location in the city regardless if you're a frequent traveler to the city or if it's your first time. Conveniently located in the Midtown East area on Lexington ave, across from the iconic Waldorf Astoria you cannot get any better. Close to the 6 train, taxis or towncar available within minutes and walking distance to literally thousands of places no matter what you want to do.
We checked in this friday and our room wasn't quite ready yet, so we grabbed a few seats at the bar in the lounge and had a nice 7.50 beer...ha, all joking aside, great customer service at the bar and to be expected in Manhattan.
Luckily we were upgraded to a larger room looking over Lexington which was a nice bonus. The room was rather spacious for a room in the city, had two queen beds and plenty of storage space for 4 people traveling together. The bathroom was kind of tight, but then again, to be expected.
The Acura concierge, I'm convinced isn't ever available as we tried getting it about 10 times in the two days we were staying. That was probably a good thing though as we got to stop by a couple cool shops and pubs that we normally wouldn't have seen in Murray Hill and Midtown.
This is like all W's young good looking crowd, chic and people seem to stay here to have fun. The lobby lounge is busy every night and the in house club (whiskey blue) is a nice touch to have some late night, close to home fun. I would recommend anyone to go and stay here, no questions asked. Just keep in mind, if you don't go with at least a "mega room", you're probably gonna be in tight quarters.
The "WOW" Factor!!
by pascalemd
I stayed there for the weekend with my mom and aunt. Absolute perfection!! Whatever/Whenever, the Concierge were more than accomodating. The place is sleek, chic, clean, staff is good-looking and hip. It's in the perfect location near to all restaurants: Mint, Dos Caminos, Smith and Wollensky. The bed feels like your sleeping in air, its takes you into the night and don't wake till the next morning..What an experience, 2 thumbs up and it has the "WOW" factor. I will definite return to this hotel!!
- Pros: Everything
- Cons: None
Great location. Great Service. Great place to stay w/ dog
by Bomarc
Great service from arrival to departure.
I brought along a small dog and their consideration for both of us went way past what I'd expected.
Not once did I experience the well-known "New York rudeness" while at the hotel, everyone were friendly and helpful.
The hotel-store is amazing and it doesn't hurt that the Bliss spa has a store in the same building and the bathrooms - although on the small side for someone not used to New York small-sized living - were stocked with Bliss products.
The large bar area by the reception is very comfortable and a great place to meet before going out to dinner.
Location is great, within walking distance to Central Park,5th Ave and everything Manhattan has to offer.
I will be back.
- Pros: Location,service,design
- Cons: Expensive,Small rooms
the Worst W
by ryo89harvard11
i don't know why so many people fancy this hotel, but this is the worst W that i have ever stayed at. the rooms are ridiculously small, style (housekeeping) isn't all that good, some of the rooms are even depressing, has awful views, and few of the welcome desk (front desk) agents are too impolite and informal...
i would stay away from this hotel, especially when u have to see the magnificent waldorf=astoria right in front of the hotel every time u exit and enter the hotel.
- Pros: the amenities, just b/c it's a W
- Cons: small rooms
Great Stay in Midtown Manhattan
by nyclover22
This a first-time post.
Having stayed at W properties around New York and having avoided the W New York until the renovation completion in August, I didn't know what to expect. That being said, I was completely amazed by the hotel's atmosphere and service-minded attitude throughout my stay. I believe that the new surroundings have re-energized the staff and as a result the hotel is now a thriving property in midtown.
The room I stayed in was on the top floor and was modern and very spacious. There was an adequately sized bathroom with a rainforest showerhead, a large queen bed and a small balcony to finish it off. At no point did I experience any of the complaints I have usually heard about this hotel (room service trays in the hall, scuffed carpets, rattling AC, etc). The staff had been alerted to it being my birthday over the weekend and my friend and I were pleasantly surprised to find a bottle of champagne in the room with a note from the manager one evening. This was definitely above the hotel's obligation to us as guests.
I was very pleased with my stay and look forward to when I can return. Keep in mind that the type of room you book will proportionaly affect your experience at the hotel as some can be quite small.
- Pros: Concierge, Ambience, Service, Warm Vibe
- Cons: Check-in can get a bit hairy when there's a large group of people checking-in.
