Impeccable service, cleanliness and style from a luxury mega-chain..
The Scene
The Gotham outpost of this Paris-based upscale chain (one of 750 worldwide) doesn't skimp on the lavishness that a Park Avenue address demands. The Mediterranean-inspired interior, soft yellow and blue walls, marble-tiled floors and chocolate leather seating are accented with ornate mirrors, ceramic-potted seed spheres and glass-topped iron tables.
The Services
The international crew of stylists are all trained in the Jacques Dessange method, which includes stand-up cutting and foil-less highlights. Uptown extras are all here--complimentary makeup touches are standard, and coffee, iced tea, soda and sweet treats are always on hand. On sale: The full Jacques Dessange by L'Oreal haircare line (the treatments are often compared to Kerastase), as well as cosmetics, face and body products and prestige lines like ArTec and Phytologie.
WARNING: Worst highlights EVER. I had been to Jacques Dessange when traveling in Spain and they did a great job. I figured I would try out the salon in New York thinking that I would be impressed once again. Boy was I WRONG. My colorist's name was Danielle. I should have ran away when I arrived and saw that another client was complaining about her hair (which Danielle had just colored). I wanted pretty baby blonde highlights (I even brought pictures) and what I wound up with was orange brassy colored hair that looked like a single process job. I was devistated. Danielle was a nice girl but she has no clue what she is doing when it comes to color. Take my advice and avoid this place at all costs.
