Tips for Stephen Knoll Salon

teach your hair stylists how to style and cut hair. horrible experience. crooked cut. Awful! I called this salon and told them my hair was very long and I wanted it sectioned and cut. I wanted Clips to hold up my hair and each section horizontally cut, so I would have a lovely hair cut. I even told that to Sandra. She said she sectioned it. HOW? By combing my long hair, and moving around the hair and just cutting straight. A BARBER CAN DO THAT! I didn't have to pay $150 for that. And I specifically asked if she would cut hair that way at the front desk. On top of that she didn't know how to cut my bangs. I had to recut them entirely when I returned home and the front layers of my hair are off by about 2 inches. Very crooked. THe bottom of hair doesn't look as if it falls under and neatly. Instead, it's choppy looking. A horrible experience. Stay away!

Horrible Experience. I came here for a bridal hair and makeup trial on Friday, Feb. 20, 2009. I had an appointment with Lilianna. After putting on a robe I walked into the main salon area. Major chop shop. Seats were packed and stylists were running around like chickens without their heads.

I sat down for my up-do, where Lilianna came to me and said she "wouldn't have enough time" to do my hair because the appointment person had booked me for only 1 hour, while she needs 1.5 hours to wash and blow-dry. (Lilianna was some kind of Eastern European whom I could barely understand, AND she some sort of blister disease on her lip). I explained that on the phone they had instructed me that, so as to save time, I had the option to come in with my hair already blow-dried--which I had done. There should have been no time issue. My hair is thick and curly, so my having blow-dried it myself before saved the stylist at least half an hour. She says don't get "excited" and that we can "try something" "quickly" to see how I like it. Try something quickly? And pay these people $400 + tip to do a rush job? So what would happen on my wedding day, the same thing? I also need to mention that I came a long way out of state (FL) for this appointment, and they couldn't have cared less. Long story short, she starts teasing my hair (again, thick, curly hair, no need to tease, I'm not a 50 year old hag) and as I'm sitting in the chair, the manager comes in to tell me that I should have booked 1.5 hours! I tell them no one told me to do this, and that I had told the appointment. person that I was doing a bridal trial, shouldn't they know to book the correct amt. of time??? Long story short, they blamed me for their not having enough time to do the up-do and their scheduling mishap. Furious, I then got up and walked away. No one tried to stop me or apologize as I headed out the door. Don't go here. They will blame your for their mistakes.

My favorite hair salon. This is a great salon. From the first time I ventured in, just to have a look around, I knew it was the right one! All the people who work there are friendly and attentive, and those that have actually done my hair are excellent. Nicolay is - for me - the best colorist that I've gone to, and Liliana is a wonderful and thoroughly delightful stylist, as good on the teenage son as she is on both the mother and teenage daughter. From the ladies on the desk to the young men who bring the coffee and everyone (well nearly!) in between they are all pleasant and helpful. The only long faces are on the Upper Eastside ladies who seem to often be in the majority and rarely manage a smile!

Natural, sexy hair by the celebrity stylist and his team.. If you've read a fashion mag in the last 10 years, chances are that you've heard of Stephen Knoll. He's trimmed the tresses of countless celebs, and helps shape each season's looks with his runway work. Luckily, he's also a down-to-earth, personable guy who thinks in the long-term, favoring healthy, natural locks--with just the slightest edge--over fleeting trends. A mixed crowd of tourists, Upper East Side mavens and Midtown career folk keep the salon hopping; nearly 50 staffers help things run smoothly. Facials, waxing, makeup application and nail services are also available.

Great wedding hair. Liliana did my hair for my wedding last year. I LOVED the way in turned out. I went in for a trial and she was able to create the exact look I wanted - long gentle curls. The style lasted all day long and looked just as good at the end of the night. I highly recommend her. I can't say much about the price, however, since my mom picked up the tab. I think it was pretty pricey so as long as you know that going in, you'll be very pleased.

Don't Bother THE WORST HAIRCUT I HAVE EVER HAD. Save yourself from the worst haircut I have ever had. Since having this abortion of a haircut, I can not go any where else until it grows out. It was so bad, and no one in the salon cared. I wrote a letter and I received no response. No customer service at all. I would recommend you skip this salon, the worst is getting a bad hair cut and the salon not even trying to do anything.

Service? Quality. Very disappointed. The service from the moment I walked in was poor. It felt very much like an assembly line and did nothing to make the client feel welcome. If you are looking for Ambience and an escape from the city for a few hours, choose a salon that will create this type of experience for you. This salon doesn't even come close.

Stephen Knoll Saved Me on My Wedding Day. After Butterfly Salon robbed me of nearly $400, I pulled my business from them last minute and asked Stephen Knoll, with only 2 weeks to my wedding, with no money left for trials what they could do. Karl did my makeup and Lilliana my updo-- they assured me I didn't need an updo, I just went in and talked to them and on the morning of my wedding I was pampered, treated kindly and looked perfect. My hair and makeup could not have been better - they were masterpeices.
