“their cookies are sooooo good!”
“was ushered in and shown around by the courteous front desk, given my robe and changing room by a genuinely friendly chick, offered a complimentary coffee drink or tea, and then brought upstairs for color.”
“This is a great place to get your hair done.”
“VERY friendly staff.”
“can get a better cut for $20, not to mention overpriced products and "services.”
“I've been meaning to write this months ago and that is how long i have loved my color!”
Should have read Citysearch First.
OMG, When I read the reviews, after I had a disastrous haircut, I was not all that shocked to see that there were a few that I could have written myself ! I was surprised by the arrogance and indifference to my wants, by William, my haircutter, who was more interested in telling me his credentials, than listening to my concerns. . I had mentioned a particular hairstyle type that I wanted, and he couldn't have been less interested to find out what I meant. At one point during the haircut, I point blank asked him, (in a very nice way), if there was some reason that he didn't want to cut my hair. He cut my hair with a razor, and just as the other comments say, I had only
wanted some of the long layers trimmed, and the bottom had to be put into shape. He told me that when he finished, my hair would be grazing my shoulder, (which it is not). I have a really good
head of hair, only now as some of the other clients have said, I guess I will have to wait about 6 months for it to grow back. I will say, I complained at the front desk as I was paying. They were
very nice, and even offered me a small discount. They said that if I was still unhappy within the next 2 weeks, that I could come in for another cut with another stylist. The salon is such an amazing space, that I wish I could return, but I NEVER WILL.
Fabulous Cuts and Styles!.
Like the majority of the people I know, we are always trying to find the best places to get a haircut. One that will cut it the way you want it without you telling them. I cannot say this will be my last place to go because I do love trying new ones out there, what I can say is that I was pretty impressed by the haircut. I?ve always enjoyed their hair products so I figured I?d give this a shot.
I look at the cut, price, and friendliness for an overall rating. I can?t think of anything here that will give this place lower than a 5 in each category (well maybe the price because we all wish it would be more affordable). The location and decor is amazing. Totally satisfied and plan on recommending this place to my friends as well. If only I could remember the name of the person I saw that would be a great help. Either way, as I looked around I saw lots of people getting really fabulous haircuts. The next time I can afford this place I?m coming here for a haircut.
I read the reviews and didn't believe them.
I read a batch of bad reviews and figured it was the competition having fun. Forget it. This place is living on its past reputation. The stylists are so busy fawning over each other than they entirely neglect the needs of the client. I tried the haircuts three times (guess that makes me pretty foolish). Each was worse than the other - but weirdly, they all looked great for about three days. Then plop ; they fell like a bag of straw.
Probably because the colorist there absolutely fried my once-gorgeous, shiny, thick hair. A disaster. First she put in so many highlights that my hair was a shade of ash that made it look gray. Then, I had to come back again and she coated it in a "gloss" that dulled my hair and turned it mousy brown. All the processing with some awful products has left me with unrecognizable locks. My hair was always easy and beautiful - and Bumble and Bumble managed to take that away. I imagine I'll have to wait six months for it to grow back.
Meantime, I'm off to another place to fix Bumble and Bumble's horror show. And yes, it did cost a fortune to have my hair ruined.
Horrible. I went to Crystal yesterday and asked for scissor layers and some fringe around my face. I only wanted one to two inches taken off the length. My hair was about 12 inches past my shoulders when I went in, and 2 inches past my shoulders when I left. My thick hair has been reduced to a limp, frizzy mess. The left side is about an inch and a half longer then right...sans one strand of hair that extends 2 inches past the rest. I spent 2 years growing out my hair, and now it looks like I'll either be getting a bob or spending another 2 years re-growing. All of the product made my hair look fine when I left, but after washing it myself it looks awful despite multiple attempts (curling, straightening, air-drying with product...). Stay Away!!! I could have done a better job with a pair of nail clippers.
haircutter not a stylist. I'm giving B&B two stars because the salon itself is lovely with beautiful views. However, I've now had two bad haircuts from William. I don't know why I went back -- I guess I was hoping the first bad cut was a fluke. I have LOTS of fine, wavy hair, and William was recommended by the reception staff because he could "handle it". The first time he thinned it out way too much then styled it into a frizzy mop that my partner still laughs about. Six months later I asked him to suggest styles that would compliment the shape of my face and he refused while chastising me for not bringing a picture (I did the first time, but I got a totally unrelated frizzy mop). Both times he seemed distracted and sour. Two sub-standard experiences are more than enough -- I won't give up my money or hair at B&B again.
THE hair salon of New York City. Bumble and Bumble is where people train to be stylists. All Stylist's must have at least 12 years experence before they can get a job at Bumble. Go here and ask for Roy; he is simply the best! I would not trust anyone else with my hair!
Andrean: The Best Stylist in NYC.
Everyone knows: you get what you pay for, so I am OK with the cost of Bumble cuts and here's why...
After moving to NYC in 1997, I was referred by a friend to a stylist and salon which I continued to use for more than 7 years happily and loyally. The stylist was not Andrean and the salon was not Bumble & Bumble.
A hair emergency arose (big job interview) four years ago and my go-to stylist was out of town. My wife suggested I try her stylist at Bumble & Bumble and I have been seeing Andrean there ever since.
Recently, a victim of the sinking economy, I lost my job suddenly. The good news is that I managed to line up an interview almost immediately. But, I had a problem: my hair had grown a little too long and shaggy for an important job interview. That's right, Andrean to the rescue again. If I get the job, I know exactly who to thank. Skilled and charming, as long as Andrean remains at Bumble & Bumble, I will remain a customer.
Simply put, she's the best. If you see her and disagree, let me know.
william will give you ratty hair. i got my hair cut at the downtown salon and felt my hair was too heavy and needed my layers trimmed. i went back w/in two wks for free redo. my stylist was out so they assigned me to William. he said all he was willing to do was thin it out, cut into it. i let him b/c i had already paid $130 for cut. he cut all the body out and left me w/ thin ratty hair. on the way home i want into another salon where a woman fixed it w/out hestation, but it will take me 6 months or more to get the volume back that he cut out.
BEST PLACE TO GET HAIRCUT.
I usually have bad experiences with haircuts but i heard bumble and bumble was a good place to go.
So i booked an appointment with Travis in the downtown salon.IT WAS AMAZING. He did exactly what i wanted and didn't cut all my hair off like everyone does. They are really accommodating and on time.
i HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT.
iffy. This salon is sort of like a factory, while I do love their products, the skill is not worth the price. This location has been notorious for canceling on me and others and the last minute without offering other times. Maybe they don't care about or need their customers. Also, I don't care too much about being coddled when getting my hair done, but here you just feel rushed through everything. I guess if you're desperate, they won't screw up your hair, but there are other places to go.
