I just love my new haircut. It is what I asked for and it looks great. The experience was quiet and relaxing, the way I like it. The environment is clean and modern. I highly recommend Momotaro Salon.

Japanese Straightening.

by QueenSandra

If you are thinking about getting either Japanese Straightening or Keratin Straightening, I highly recommend you to go to MOMOTARO Int'l Hair Salon for Japanese Straightening.

I was reading ELLE magagine and I found out about Yoshie at MOMOTARO. When I went there for consultation, she took enough time to analyse my hair and told me how Japanese Straightening works without pushing me to do it. I felt so comfortable to get it done by her.

If I were you, I wouldn't go any other hair salon. She really is the best. I was once told that Japanese Straightening usually takes about 5 hours, but she was not only fast but gave me a perfect hair cut as well. It only took about 3 hours! You are not going to be disappointed, I can garantee.

  • Pros: Friendly, Clean space, Relaxing
  • Cons: Hard to find where it is

Best!

OMG!

I just walked in to get my hair cut. I didn't have anywhere specific anyway. I told the stylist that I hated how my hair felt like when she gave me a consultation, then she told me that they have a good hair conditoner(Deep Treatment?) I don't remember what it was called, I was like "whatever" but got it done anyway....

I can't believe how shiny my hair could possibly be!Shiny, smooth... I LOVE the cut also.I am SO glad that i went in.

Shampoo was awesome, service was great, ppl were nice, talented stylist, etc...

This is THE place to go to.

Perfect place for top quality Japanese straightening

by carefulconsumer1234

If you're interested in Japanese staightening then Momotaro is probably the best place in NYC to get it done. I recommend the stylist named Abe. He's straightened me hair and given my stylish cuts for almost three years now. He is very competent, professional and passionate about what he does. For long hair, the cost will be around $500, which is pretty fair considering some salons (non-Japanese) charge almost $1000 for the same treatment with less skill. I also tried a cheaper salon that charged $300-400 and regretted it. It's also four hours of work and requires expensive chemicals. They also just gave me a year supply of shampo and conditioner after my last visit!

Other reviewers have commented about the lack of good English skills--the receptionist and one other stylist grew up in the US and speak fluent English and Abe has gotten a lot better over the years and can carry on conversations easily. Some of the new workers who are training and assisting the main stylists struggle with English but it's not really an inconvenience at all.

  • Pros: Professional, upscale, highly skilled stylists, head massages and drinks are included in all hair services!
  • Cons: trims for bangs are expensive--should be free like in other upscale salons
