Excellent – I just love my new haircut. It is what I asked for and it looks great. The experience was quiet and relaxing, the way I like it. The environment is clean and modern. I highly recommend Momotaro Salon.
If you are thinking about getting either Japanese Straightening or Keratin Straightening, I highly recommend you to go to MOMOTARO Int'l Hair Salon for Japanese Straightening.
I was reading ELLE magagine and I found out about Yoshie at MOMOTARO. When I went there for consultation, she took enough time to analyse my hair and told me how Japanese Straightening works without pushing me to do it. I felt so comfortable to get it done by her.
If I were you, I wouldn't go any other hair salon. She really is the best. I was once told that Japanese Straightening usually takes about 5 hours, but she was not only fast but gave me a perfect hair cut as well. It only took about 3 hours! You are not going to be disappointed, I can garantee.
Best! – OMG!
I just walked in to get my hair cut. I didn't have anywhere specific anyway. I told the stylist that I hated how my hair felt like when she gave me a consultation, then she told me that they have a good hair conditoner(Deep Treatment?) I don't remember what it was called, I was like "whatever" but got it done anyway....
I can't believe how shiny my hair could possibly be!Shiny, smooth... I LOVE the cut also.I am SO glad that i went in.
Shampoo was awesome, service was great, ppl were nice, talented stylist, etc...
This is THE place to go to.
Best Salon in NYC – The only place in New York to go for a blowout, cut and Japanese gel nails
Perfect place for top quality Japanese straightening – If you're interested in Japanese staightening then Momotaro is probably the best place in NYC to get it done. I recommend the stylist named Abe. He's straightened me hair and given my stylish cuts for almost three years now. He is very competent, professional and passionate about what he does. For long hair, the cost will be around $500, which is pretty fair considering some salons (non-Japanese) charge almost $1000 for the same treatment with less skill. I also tried a cheaper salon that charged $300-400 and regretted it. It's also four hours of work and requires expensive chemicals. They also just gave me a year supply of shampo and conditioner after my last visit!
Other reviewers have commented about the lack of good English skills--the receptionist and one other stylist grew up in the US and speak fluent English and Abe has gotten a lot better over the years and can carry on conversations easily. Some of the new workers who are training and assisting the main stylists struggle with English but it's not really an inconvenience at all.
NEVER EVER AGAIN! – I was looking for a last minute place to get my hair cut and decided to treat myself when I saw the great reviews that had been written about this place. There needs to be a disclaimer that lets people know that nobody speaks or understands english.
When I was having my hair washed I felt relaxed. They put a hot towel over my eyes- I thought I was being pampered and loving every moment. I thought I heard something strange but ignored it and continued to relax. THEN the guy started cutting my hair and to my surprise, a HUGE chunk of hair on the side of my head was missing. It was a COMPLETELY different length then the rest of my hair. I KNEW that he had done something while washing my hair. What made matters worse was that he acted like it was like that when I came in. I can assure you, my last hair cut was very short and there was no way that my hair was like this before- It was so obvious that there was a huge part of hair missing that when I got home, my boyfriend asked me "WHAT HAPPENED!?!" It's been at least 3 months since and my hair has still not fully grown back. I'm so upset. I completely forget what it's like to have normal hair. :(
I'll NEVER EVER GO back here again!
User review by huiee – I just had my appointment at Momotaro Salon for the Japanese Straightening treatment. I found out about this salon on citysearch, took a chance, and was not disappointed. I called the salon, had a walk-in consultation, when they quote the price. for me it was 560 with a haircut and tax included. (they give you a 10% discount if you pay in cash). i was able to schedule the appt. 3 days later on a saturday with Natori Tsuneki. The all-Japanese staff here is really nice, professional, meticulous, and definitely know what they are doing. Not once was I hesitant of the outcome...which is super straight! The cut i received was amazing! The stylist definitely created something that was super easy and flattering. I love this place and will go back.
Great service – I had been in a very famous franchised hair salon before, but never gotten what I wanted.
A friend of mine told me that this Japanese-run hair salon was worth trying.
Ok, what the heck, I tried it.
With a little language struggle, but most of all, the person who cut my hair talked me like I'm Queen and massage he gave me was impressed!!! I actually fell in sleep. Phew!
The cut was exactly what I wanted and the price table was fair. Must check it out.
