Will never recommend.... – I was indeed searching for a high class salon and my friend recommended that the Aveeda Salons are generally good, thats exactly how I landed up at Margrith of Switzerland... My hair is naturally straight but lately I was observing some waves which typically was disturbing me. I wanted Japanese straightening but the hair expert discouraged me very badly and convinced me to go for keratin smoothening at the cost of $400. I relied on her words and she affirmed me that it will atleast last for 4-6 mths and insisted me to follow some after treatment measures. I meticulously followed everything but just after the first wash my hair was back to square one. Not even a minute trace of smoothening was visible. It broke my heart. Not only that they literally pressurize you to buy their products at a super premium price. Will never go back and recommend all my friends and family to beware of their services. Am super super disappointed and regret my decision...
Haircut fine; strange / misleading pricing of services – My haircut was fine, however, I don't think it was worth $104 (I have straight-wavy long hair, and asked for long layers). I would have chosen a different salon if I had intended to get a $100+ haircut. The Margrith website lists a haircut for women at $55 and up. I've been to other Aveda Concept salons in NYC (e.g. Scott J) and Westchester (e.g. Eclipse), and this seemed in line with prices I've paid in the past ($40ish - $70ish depending on difficulty of hair, seniority of stylist, etc.) at these other Aveda Concepts.
When I went to pay at Margrith, I was told it was $104, and when I asked why, I was told that it was because I had gotten a blow-dry. When I replied that I have never had a haircut (except maybe with the lady at the corner salon who charges $10 to take a garden shears to your hair) where the stylist didn't blowdry to see how the cut turned out (and usually cuts a bit more after drying, based on how the dry hair falls), I was told that I should have known because I was asked on the phone and by the stylist if he should blowdry. I was not told that I was being asked about the blowdry because it cost extra. I was also shown the price-list at this point, as an explanation for the $104, where a blow-dry was listed separately; however, most salons have a cut option and a style/blow-dry option (e.g. getting your hair done for an occasion). At no other Aveda concept or other similar caliber salon have I not had my stylist blow-dry my hair as part of the cutting process. How on earth can a stylist do a good job without drying the hair and making sure that it falls correctly? I wouldn't have come to a place that charges $55 for a haircut and then refuses to blow-dry to complete the styling/cutting process. And I certainly wouldn't have come here had I known that a simple cut and blow-dry cost $104.
I won't be returning here. The cut was fine, but most definitely not worth that price.
And I certainly do not want to patronize a place with misleading and overpriced services. Maybe this actually is a common practice, and I am just naive? All I can compare it to is other places that I've been to, though. Other Aveda Concept salons do not operate this way, and other hair salons that I have been to that are a level or two above the $10/haircut variety do not operate this way either.
I do not choose to get my hair cut at pricey salons (which I categorize as $100+ salons), and had I been in the market for a $104 haircut, I would not have chosen Margrith. My hair is simply not complicated enough to need a haircut in the $100-$200 range, and the stylist who cut my hair at Margrith did a decent job, but did not seem any more skilled than those I have encountered in the $45-$60 range at other Aveda Concept salons.
I'll be going back. – Pricey, though not outrageous, and definitely worth it. The shampoo was one of the best I've had at any salon, and Margrith gave me a great haircut. When she was done, I wasn't 100% satisfied, so she cut a little more until I was happy. Sometimes a stylist makes your hair look great that day, but then it's doesn't look so hot the next day, or even the next week. Interestingly enough, I wasn't crazy about how she styled it that day, but it looks fantastic when I simply wash it and run my fingers through it with some gel. And that's what counts.
Yes, I recommend it – I have been going here for many years. I have gone to others and have always gone back. I must tell you they are not cheap. Hear that. So you are warned, but you will get a good color job. Make sure you tell then exactly what you want. Do not go to someone named Luigi. He is a pompous and arrogrant person and very rude and unfriendly. Most of the others, especially the owner, Margrith, are fine. Margrith knows her color.
Amazing hair color and nail service – I have been going to this salon for almost two years. I love the service that this salon provides. For nail service, I highly recommend Annie. She's very friendly and does a beautiful job with nails. Also, she does a killer pedicure =) For hair service, I recommend Margarith. She's the owner of the salon. She is very sweet and is an amazing hair-stylist. I normally do highlights and hair cuts for my hair and my goodness, she does a wonderful job. The color she uses for my hair gives it a natural-color touch, which I love.
Margarith's assistant Carmen is very nice and does a very good hair wash. Overall, the staff is friendly. I also recommend the facial service at the salon. I just done it twice. The lady who does the facial does a really good job.
Best Salon & Spa in Town – My wife has been coming to Margrith of Switzerland for years. I decided to go with her the last time she came as I was looking for some color highlight treatment. When I walked out, not only did my hair have new highlights that looked great, I also had a new hair style that I like much better! From top to bottom they are true professionals!
best highlights in town! – The minute I walked in the door the receptionist greeted me with a warm welcome and offered to take my coat. When she escorted me to my chair my stylist, Margrith, offered me something to drink and while I sipped my coffee she spoke about ideas she had for my color and cut. I decided to go with blond highlights. I have long thick hair and Margrith was caring and maticulous when applying my highlights. When she was finished I was so pleased with my color and cut that I asked about her other services and mentioned that I was interested in a bikini wax. She referred me to a member of her staff and they took me into the waxing room. Again I was impressed with the service. The waxing was quick and with minimal pain, and the appliances were clean. I strongly suggest this salon to anyone looking for a good price for great service!!
Editorial Review – In addition to hair cuts and coloring, salon also has body and skin care services.
Great service for a great price. – I have heard a lot about this salon from many different friends telling me i should try it out. I heard great things about the services and the employees that work there. When i was first ready to go and try it out for myself i decided to treat myself to a facial, massage and manicure/pedicure. When I came into the salon the receptionsit was very helpul and nice. I did not have to wait long to get served. I was welcomed by a smile from the person who was going to take care of me. The facial and massage room was very clean, relaxing, i felt like i was on another planet away from all my problems. The facial was very refreshing. I was not sure which facial was right for me so the lady took a look at my skin and chose one that was right for my skin type. She was very gentle and seemed very experienced, and i have had lots of facials before so i know how to tell a good facial froma bad one. Once it was time for my masage i thought i was going to fall asleep because it felt sooooo good but kept myself from it because i did not want to miss one second of it. Once i was finished she let me stay in the room to just relax and unwinde in peace listeing to realxing music and smelling the wonderful aromas in the room. Once i was ready to go to the next phase of my treat she recomended products for my skin type to fix what ever issues my skin is having. They are an Aveda themed salon so they have everything you can possibly want. The next part was to get a manicure and pedicure. They have a lot of choices of colors to choose from. The person who did my nails was very gentle and did not rush me. She was very clean as well. I felt like the world revolved around me.
I would definetly recomend this place for all your salon or spa needs. I was amazed to find out they have also color specialists and wax services as well. They do everything!!! I am definetly going to go back to this place and i recomend it for everyone looking for good service and a reasonable price.
Could be a bad day- or could be a bad salon. – I went to this salon because I found it on the Aveda site and had generally had good experiences with aveda and salons associated with them. I went for a cut and to repair a bad color job (not done by them) on my extremely fine medium length hair. I brought a picture in of what i wanted for the cut and color. My major issues/problems with the place were...
1. Lack of professionalism. I am small and seem very young and I was treated I believe with a lack of repsect. A hair washer walked bye and patted me on the head. Another came up grabbed my hair and smelled it- and asked what conditioner I use (all with a very invasive manner). The stylist would wander off and talk to other customers while he was working with me (when he also knew I had limited time). I informed him of the time I needed to leave but started cutting another customers hair after he had started mine, when I needed to leave in 30 minutes. He finally came back over to me when I had to leave in 10 minutes to finish the cut. Needless to say he rushed which hardly ever ends in a good experience.
2. Lack of style. I had a pretty easy yet somewhat modern request for the cut. The stylistt seemed to just take it as a general guideline and ignored the texture and characteristics of my hair. So, I basically ended up with an overly choppy, layered mullet. with my extremely fine hair- too many very small layers and chopping results in a ton of frizz and flyaways and the resemblance that my head had been run over by a lawnmower. As I said, he was rushed through much of this- and then when I didn't like it- he argued with me and told me it was what I asked for. What happened to good customer service? Because I had to leave I had no time to argue and frankly did not want this person to touch me again- I had no time to argue or insist not paying for something so horrid. Everyone I saw for the next week said "well at least it will grow". Not what you want to hear after spending over $200.
