Editorial Review for Lift Gym – by Drew Pisarra
The Space
With its stripped-down black, white and steel-gray interior enhanced by windows wrapping around two walls, Lift might appear to be a typical (if super-clean) gym with an excellent view. Closer inspection reveals otherwise: Every member on the floor has a trainer--with whom s/he must meet at least two times a week.
The Services
Owner Ken Fitzgerald came up with a great idea when he started this business in 1997: a gym that rents out to trainers looking to establish themselves as independent businessmen. He's attracted his freelance staff--all certified with at least three years' experience--strictly through word of mouth. In a relatively short time, the facility expanded from one to four floors--one for cardio and stretching, two for equipment and free weights, and one with a small outdoor patio for relaxing with your protein shake.

Insider Tips
Know Before You GoSince Lift focuses exclusively on one-on-one training, group classes are not available. But the facility does have a small room for boxing tutorials.
The ExtrasA massage therapist and physical therapist are available. (Sometimes, functional movement is more important than muscular development).
