The Scene
In the rarefied world of fine French cuisine, few compare to Jean Georges' New York star. From the meal's palate-tingling amuse bouche opening to the parting gift of boxed chocolates, every moment feels effortlessly choreographed. The precise service still manages to be friendly, and the dining room's buzz proves that the financially well-endowed don't always live up to their stuffy stereotype.
The Food
Chef Mark Lapico and his team prepare all the fare to exacting standards. Dainty, flavorful sea scallops find their soul-mate with sweet caramelized cauliflower, and lobster (whether in a Gruyere-green chili or a lemongrass-fenugreek broth) has never been so succulent. Classic mains feel lively with global influences--the Asian pear and candied tamarinds are perfect foils for gamey squab, served very rare. And even vegetables impress: A dish of just-picked morels over fork-tender asparagus will have meat-eaters on their knees. Dessert is an encore itself, with diners choosing a theme that includes four separate wonders.
Hits: It's the seafood dishes that amaze with their just-cooked perfection. At every bite, you're aware that no corner has been cut, from sourcing to plating.
Misses: With food this fine, it's hard to quibble with the menu's high price, but the budget-conscious should beware as a meal for two can top $500.

The greeting is warm + friendly. The room is exqusitely chic, yet understated enough and not glitzy AND you can have a conversation. The setting along Central Park is un-rivalled. The food is consistently divine: superb produce, creatively combined, yet never over-done or weird. The service is impeccable. And all of this happens day after day, year after year, and doesn't look tired. AND the pricing is actually reasonable when compared to many other over-bloated imitators. Quite an amazing feat.

OK- Maybe it was a bad night BUT my husband and I went here a few months back for his birthday and we were highly disappointed. Not sure what the big whoop is about this place. First the carpet needs to be changed like yesterday Secondly the decor is boring with a capital B. The food was average, not what you expect from a Michelin rated restaurant. The wait staff is average, apparently not trained the real art of fine dining. The experience was average and we will not return, especially for those prices. Trust me, go elsewhere.

The Food was okay, nothing great. Not a single dish was amazing. Some of the dish was extremely sour. The dessert they serve had a red sauce that was extremely sweet not even edible. The waiters were nice but we were seated next to the kitchen, which was extremely hot around the area. We request if we can be moved further from the kitchen. No seats were available, which I can understand. But once a seat open up they should have given us one of those seat; that just poor service.
