The Scene – Some nights, it seems as if the entire Upper West Side is at Citrus, a loud and cheerful restaurant with branded tables, longhorn designs on the seat cushions and a tequila selection as long as most wine lists. Downstairs, there's a hopping lounge by the name of Squeeze. – – – The Food – The Latin food here alternately hits and misses. Winning appetizers include the robust romaine and pickled-vegetable salad, the selection of quesadillas and the cornmeal-crusted oysters. However, soggy grilled-squid tacos and limp fried shrimp served in a martini…

Slipping a little

by aemeyer

Citrus is a "go to" place for my friends and I when we can't decide where to go for dinner or brunch and/or weren't up for crowded dining areas and long lines. We like that there's ample space and several great choices on the menu. I almost always order the Citrus Chopped Salad.

This past Sunday a few friends and I went for brunch and I'm sad to say I was disappointed. The Citrus Chopped Salad was lacking in the wonderful toppings -pumpkin seeds, jicama, avocado, sweet potatos and manchego cheese - that make it so tasty and flavorful. There was barely any manchego on our salads and everything else was sparse. The moment we brought this to our waiter's attention he seemed to catch on immediately and it made me wonder if due to the economy, they have knowingly cut back on ingredients.....In any event, as always, the service was fantastic and our waiter brought us up cups of manchego and avocado to add to our plates of lettuce. Ultimately I had a pretty good chopped salad but I still elft feeling a bit disappointed over one of my favorite "standys."

  • Pros: Good food, great service, nice large space
  • Cons: Salad had a lot of lettuce and not a lot of anything else

Citrus continues to disappoint (Upper West Side, NYC)

by MattMcG

Well it had been almost 2 years since I had last visited Citrus... I never found the service to be any good and the food was always average (even though the menu makes it sound fantastic)... Anyway, today - father's day - I decided to try it once again, as many of my first choices did not have tables available. Well I should have stayed home. Citrus disappointed once again. Not only was the food below average, the service was down right poor... only to be topped off by the fact that the manager on duty - Natalia - dropped my father's father day present - a collection of photos - all over the floor and didn't even have the sensibility to apologize. She left them there and moved on.

Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.

  • Pros: Nice Ambiance
  • Cons: Poor Service, decent food
