Why only white people are here.
Really?! What asian restaurant don't know how to cook rice? And $14 for a small plate of Cold Sesame noodles; it wasn't even that extraordinary. Maybe it's the location, caucasian patrons, but this place was overpriced, undercooked, underwhelming and I never plan to go here again.
White people: if you go to an asian restaurant, and the only patrons are other white people, then you deserve that plate of bad food.

Embarrassing Food for the Price. I came here with my husband for Chinese New Year. We ordered one Shanghai juicy buns, one Half Beijing Duck, and one Grand Marnier Prawns. The buns were not juicy, the duck was not fresh, and the prawns were covered in a greasy layer of mayonnaise-like goo. Alas! $90 later, we were still hungry. What a shame. In its own shock-and-awe fashion, Shun Lee managed to butcher the crown jewel of Chinese cuisine - the Peking Duck. The duck was obviously frozen and NOT fresh - as the flesh was dry and chewy at the same time. What a waste of our time and money.

Outstanding On Every Level. I go here everytime I go to NYC. Being chinese the food is very authentic Chinese. The food quality is quite good & the service is excellent. They cater to you big time. Overall, the best chinese restaurant in NYC.

DON'T GO TO SHUN LEE. This place offered the worst service that I've ever had in my entire life. They were rude and acted like they were doing us a favor waiting on us. We never leave without tipping but this place was the worst ever. If you're paying money to go out you expect to be treated like a customer not someone that is a bother to the restaurant. I hope they go under during these difficult economic times. DON'T GO TO SHUN LEE!!!!

HORRIBLE FOOD.
I am a native New Yorker and this place received rave reviews in Zagats so I gave it a try....I went with my girlfriend and this place is HORRIBLE. If you are a native NYer or tourist STAY AWAY. I ordered dumplings for appetizers and they were tasteless.....then for the main course I had brazed ribs....
I like my meat lean and asked the waiter if they were fatty and he said " Not at all." When they arrived they were disgusting, barely any meat...all fat and bone. I did not complain to the manager because I am NOT going back. In all honesty you are better off going to Chinatown where you will pay half as much and the food is a 1000x better !!!......and to add the prices are very expensive. Not worth it....if you are going to have high prices the food better be good.
Anyone who posts this place is great is lying. This place is good if you want to be a show-off to clients or friends but you will walk away disappointed.

Great Dim Sum!. My husband and I had an early, pre-movie dinner at Shun Lee Cafe and were very impressed. We were offered a selection from the steamed dim sum cart as soon as we sat down and everything was very fresh. We also ordered entrees, both of which were cooked well and very flavorful. I especially like how they plate the meal for you when you share. Overall a very nice dining experience.

Two thumbs down: Chinatown quality service/food. For the first time in my life, I left a restaurant without leaving any tips! No matter how aweful the service was, I have always left 15% tips. This restaurant did NOT deserve any and I felt obligated not to tip. I told the water 3 times (as soon as we got there) that we had a performance to catch at Lincoln Center. The place is right around Lincoln center and their main customers are those who go to a performance at Lincoln center. They should know better! I have lived in the neighborhood for 10 years and other restaurants, at least, do not let the customer wait for an hour and leave empty stomach in the end to catch a show. 50 minutes later, as we were about to walk out the restaurant angry, the waiter brought our food. We ordered peking duck for 2 and a glass of wine each which ended up paying $78. Well, what we got (after waiting for 50 minutes) was some burrito looking peking duck wraps (2 each) which had a small piece of cucumber and a tiny piece of scallion stuck in it. No extra cucumber/scallion pieces or sauce on the side. THAT for $50. And again, we called the waiter several times to order one single damn thing and the waiter yelled back, "It's coming!" I looked around and there were all those angry customers who were late for their performances too. Oh this couple sitting next to our table got their food finally and it was this ugly dish that looked as if a chef just dumped some left over food. And the food was not even in the center of the plate. As soon as they got their food, the old couple goes "what the hell is this?" Alas alas, anyway we had to eat this "burrito" in 3 minutes and ran to the opera. I came home with terrible stomach ache. The bottom line is DO NOT EVER GO especially before a show. And DO NOT EVER expect any good service (or even good food for that matter).

Overrated and overpriced.
Being Chinese, we know what good Chinese food should taste like. My fiance and I frequent low key, no frills Chinatown restaurants for good Chinese food at value prices. I regrettably persuaded him to check out Shun Lee West because of it's cool decor and rave reviews. We were beyond disappointed... Whether it was the shoddy service, where it was obvious that better service was being provided to the non-Asian patrons, or the overpriced, COLD dim sum at $6.50 a dish (3 times Chinatown prices), or the ANT that crawled out of one of our dim sum steamers... we will NEVER go there again.
Stick to Chinatown if you want Chinese food, you get at least what you pay for, unlike here at Shun Lee West, where you get nothing more than poor service, cold dim sum, and unwanted guests at your table for 3-4 times the price you'd pay in c-town.
