“Gray's is the best place for a quick fix on a late Fridau night or early Sat morning.”
The flagship of the mighty Gray's Papaya chain, this store sells hot dogs and sugary fruit drinks. Did I mention hot dogs? They're cheap and snappy, and brown, and -- most importantly -- served on toasty hot buns, which makes all the difference.
Obama Hot Dogs??. I liked their hotdogs and drinks before... but now they got this huge support Obama sign out front. Time for Change I suppose - now I won't step in again. News Flash! - Not everyone in the UWS supports Obama. Grey's should be smarter than this....although I'm sure they are doing well, it's good way to lose business (at least my friends and I won't go inside again cause it's like we'd be supporting Obama). They should stick to food and not politics.
The Cheapest Damn Hotdog. Period.. They may be cheap, but they're also surprisingly good. They "pop" when you bite in. Be sure to get 'em with the onions, the combination of sweet and salt is unstoppable.
Can't beat the price!. Unlike the original Papaya King on the UES, Gray's Papaya has managed to serve the same great dogs and drink at an unbeatable price. It's great for a quick bite and very satisfying.
Don't have high expectations. I traveled all the way from Mexico to NY to discover that Mexico has the best hot dogs I have tasted yet or my expectations for Grey's Papaya were too high. I first heard this name about 7 years ago on a movie in which they made them sound so tasty I knew I had to try them when in NY. Yes they were cheap but I would much rather pay a few more bucks for something that tastes good, you get what you pay for...
Pretty Good, Cheap Hot Dogs. Ok... If you've never been here before. I don't want to amp you up like everyone else is doing... These are just hot dogs, not magical hot dogs. They are really small, and the toppings are very limited, so no relish or chilis or anything like that. Still they are pretty damn good, and they are cheap. I usually go in for 2 and leave having eaten 3.. The workers are cool and friendly too.. So if you just are in the area and need a bite, go ahead and stop in, It isn't something you need to travel long distances for or anything though...
Better than a hot dog stand. The hot dogs are a great value and they are YUMMY. The Recession Special is 2 hot dogs and a drink for $3.50. Get everything on it - sauerkraut and onion sauce and add spicy mustard. MMMMM.
Cheap. The hot dog franks are thin and not that tasty and the orange juice seems factory produced by <y God for only $2.75 I'd eat this every day!!!! There's no way you can beat that price...no way. It's evident by the never ending line and frazzled environment. But damnit with 2 hot dogs and a drink for $2.75 frazzle me all you like.
Best 95 Cent Hotdog. I go to this place all the time for cheap food. It's not the best hotdog---but it's the best 95 cent hotdog in the world. You can also get 2 dogs and a med. drink for $2.75 which is even better. The papaya drink isn't all that tasty...but i'll take it.
It's Like New York's In-N-Out ... of Hot Dogs. Gray's Papaya has taken the other American classic and really perfected its distribution. Their skinny, long dogs are like the best barbecue dogs you've ever had and they always snap when you bite into them... not to mention I'd rather eat a dog from these clean holes-in-the-walls than from a hot dog stand anyday. Two plus a coconut juice was my standard order when I lived in New York, and this might be the first place I'm going when I come to visit.
Best Hot Dogs at 3AM in NYC. Gray's Papaya has got to be NYC's best place to eat after drinks or clubbing. They have amazing dogs for cheap prices w/their "Recession Special" which includes two dogs and a drink for around $3.
