I lived in the UWS when I first moved to Manhattan, and City Grill was (and is) one of my absolute favorite restaurants. It isn't over-the-top at all; its rather refined and elegant, with just enough worn-in feeling to make it comfortable. I usually get the Hawaiian Chicken wrap (it also comes as a salad) or the salad w/ goat cheese. I know I've had other dishes, and they were all amazing!! City Grill also just puts forth the extra effort in terms of decor- they always have fresh flower arrangements on the mid-high wall that separates the bar from the seating area; they are always lovely and really enhance the atmosphere. The wait staff are friendly and attentive, and the enclosed indoor/outdoor seating area is really fun to sit in and has a lovely fan above. My fiance and I just really like this place; we consider it a staple when we're on the UWS!!! Highly recommended!!
Pros: Ambience, drinks are great, food is great and reasonable

The over 35 crowd needs SOME place to go and sit at a nice bar and have a good time. The food is reliable and doesn't try to be overly inspiring, the bathrooms are eensy teensy, but the bar is beautiful, the dining room is lovely, the enclosed street eating is all that you want with street scene eating all year round, so the complaints have to be taken with somewhat of a grain of salt. I've been coming here on and off for 20 years and with each passing year, I'm always grateful it made it through.
Pros: It feels good and solid inside, not flightly and designer poofy
Cons: bathrooms tiny and near the kitchen
