NIGHTMARE
by Uncorked
NIGHTMARE.
I ordered a case of wine online from Beacon Wine and Spirits. Because they apparently were sold out of the wine that was listed as in stock, THEY SENT ME A DIFFERENT CASE OF WINE from a different vintage with a much lower rating, even though their website clearly states that they will not make changes without contacting the customer first.
I have repeatedly contacted them more than 5 times only to get delays and the run-around, and have been promised that a return label would be emailed, then promised it would be faxed, then provided a Fed EX account number, etc, only later to find that an individual like me cannot ship wine even if it is a return for an item not purchased. My credit card buyer protection states that I must show proof of the return to reverse the charges. I am getting the run around with 4 different employees and managers each promising they will absolutely handle it that particular day.
STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS BUSINESS. Maybe honest people can send people like this a message.
They have a lot of class... unfortunately, all of it is LOW.
Great store..

Just moved in, new to the area... went in to Beacon Wines and had a great experience. I was having Thai food for dinner and Tom at Beacon was a great help in selecting the perfect wine at a great price!
They have a great selection of wines and spirits and a very helpfull staff.
Thanks
Mean, unhelpful, and impossible to find what you want

Beacon used to be friendly, and now I'd rather go without, than go in there,
Their refrigerated wine has the BOTTOM of the bottles facing out. Why?
Their salesmen are rude, pompous, and never fail to give you what you dn't want, Perhaps it's their ignorance of their stock, but that seems pushed by their efforts to make you spend more for what you're guaranteed to dislike.
All in all, you'd be better offf going anywhere else (except the vile Martin Bros), Beacon is, in a word, awful. They do everything wrong, from display, categorization, rude salesmen, and those crazy bottom down bottles in the cooler, Add on the chatty (to each other) cashiers, and you have a perfect business model of what NOT to do.
No thanks, Beacon.

Prepare to be amazed by the terrible service.
One person told me that it was difficult to "deal" with five people at once when there was a problem with my bill. Read on. It gets better.
Another asked me "how we supposed to know what the charge was supposed to be?"
IN THE END, I OWED THEM A COUPLE OF DOLLARS, AS I SUSPECTED.
No thanks from them. Customers annoy the staff at Beacon.
There are many great wine stores in 10023. I suggest any other store other than Beacon.
what's with the attitude?
by lex142
I've been buying wine and liquor for about 13 years and until a couple of years ago they had the most delightful upbeat group in there. I think the place changed owners or management maybe, but now they are pretty cold. When I buy a birthday card for $2.50 they say thanks, but when I drop $100 on wine they just push the bag at me and stare. I'll keep shopping there because it's only a couple of blocks awayand they're well stocked, but sometimes I walk down to 67th street liquors just to avoid the attitude.
- Pros: spacious, well stocked, location
- Cons: expensive, nasty people
