Fabulous gifts. I've been shopping at this gift and glass shop for years. Avventura carries crystal and glass from Italy -- everything is unique and just beautiful. They also have an extensive selection of Neruta pottery and pottery from the likes of Africa and France. A wedding gift from this store will be appreciated and treasured by couples of any age. The editorial writer from this site is just plain wrong. This store is a "find" that you will return to for all of your high end gift needs.

Manhattan's answer to the suburban gift shop.. The Scene
Crammed with multi-colored merchandise and Upper West Side matrons, Avventura is your mother's gift shop (particularly if your mother lives in Scarsdale). Thus, it's a good place to pick up gifts for your suburban relations. A good resource for locals in search of last minute gifts, but not worth the subway fare from other 'hoods.

The Goods
Most of the merch seems more suited to a suburban split-level circa 1987 than a classic six (or a Williamsburg floor-through). Brightly-hued Italian glassware dominates the front room and should be avoided. Your best bets lie in the sunny back room, stuffed to the gills with lovely French porcelain dinnerware and rustic pottery from Spain and Italy. But beware: You are entering $300/place setting territory (despite the bargain basement decor).
