The Gross Burrito
by ijdmme
Gross is certainly a more accurate term to describe the food. Don’t even bother.
Great Burrito

I am from Southern California and my Mom was a cooking teacher who taught classes in Mexican cuisine. So, I fancy myself somewhat of an expert on the subject! I have to say I have tried almost ever Mexican restaurant in NYC and this one is by far the most authentic and consistent. The best tortilla soup hands down! If you want really good, authentic Mexican food then I highly recommend this place. The only drawback is the that it's a tiny space. I would love it if they expanded!! But still worth it for the food!!
- Pros: Authentic and fresh
- Cons: none
Stellar Ma & Pa Mexican Food
by hawaiianfoxx
At first when I used to go there I thought it was a bit over-priced. However, it is all fresh and c'mon it's NYC, of course it's gonna cost a 'lil extra.
The mole is great, the vegetables and spinach is fresh, and the portions always fill me up.
I feel comfortable dining there alone, and the staff is friendly.
When I go I order 1 chicken mole enchilada and 1 verde chicken enchilada. They are two seperate dishes, but they are nice, so they combine it if you ask.
It's worth checking out at least once!
- Pros: Yummy Mexican food (and I'm from AZ)
- Cons: I always wish they would provide more chips when I dine in
People who say NYC has no good Mexican food should try this place!

I've lived on the Upper West Side for twenty years, and this is one of my favorite neighborhood places. A real gem. Nothing fancy - order at the counter and they bring your food to your table. Complimentary chips & salsa (all 3 types are great). Delicious, giant burritos with pink or black beans (served with rice inside). Try the mouth-watering enchiladas verdes - just the right spiciness. Really good mole sauce also. Excellent changing daily specials can include tamales or huaraches. The tortilla soup is good. Friendly, quick service. Price is right, especially considering the nabe.
- Pros: flavorful food; good, friendly service
- Cons: not many tables
Best california mexican food in NYC
by gfender
Don't judge a book by it's cover. At first I thought the name of this place sounded like another east coast attempt at good Mexican food but after visiting this homey restaurant on the UWS I was immediately sold. The fresh, homemade tortilla chips are incredibly good and they are served with your choice of mild, medium or hot salsa which hits the spot. The salsa is spicy and delicious which has been hard to find in NY since everything seems to be mild. I highly recommend the enchiladas verdes! Their verde sauce reminds me of the 19 years I spent living and growing up in San Diego and brought me straight back. The rice and beans are tasty as well and definitely worth the $12 for the whole enchilada plate. I will definitely be coming back many times to this sweet Mexican spot and I highly recommend it to anyone with a hunger for some good, traditional Mexican food.
- Pros: Fast service, homemade chips, delicious salsa and incredible food
- Cons: none
