Hi-Life Bar & Grill

Owner

The vintage neon sign with a blinking martini glass sets the stage for a real New York City experience. NewYorkMag.com calls Hi-Life "the quintessential bar and grill that's part forties film-noir set and part prohibition-era speakeasy."

Hi-Life Bar & Grill's antique, mahogany bar and cozy booths and banquettes offer patrons (couples and groups alike) various ways to enjoy the highly rated food and perfectly prepared cocktails. The menu features flame-grilled steaks, daily purchased fish and shellfish, with "elaborate oversized pastas and salads as well." The raw bar is manned by a traditionally trained sushi chef, who presents expertly prepared sushi, sashimi and maki.

In Short
Patrons grab one of the eight beers on tap at the bar, and then slide into a roomy booth or a table in the atrium. The menu, which features steaks, burgers and pasta in addition to sushi, is robust. Starters include potato skins, slathered in cheese and bacon bits and a warm goat cheese salad. Salads and pasta are listed under "Big Bowls"; sushi is half-price on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Hi-Life Bar & Grill is an awesome restaurant with specatular food. The staff was very understanding that we had a meeting with our friends, food came out quick and perfect with no sacarifice of quality. The decor was good and fabulous with upscale service to match. 5 stars all around.

I must say the the grilled chicken and citrus salad is really good. Mashed potatoes and creamed spinach was excellent too. I had the pork chop and it was great. It's not a fancy place but it does have a good home cooking kind of feel to it. Service is excellent but parking can be a challenge. This is a must visit!

Reminds me of an L.A. scene. Hi Life is cool in that, while it's easy going and casual. You never know when you might see a celebrity. A few weeks ago my girlfriends and I (all aspiring actresses) sat near James Franco from Spiderman. In New York it seems the celebrities only go to the downtown place of the moment, while in L.A. celebrities pop-up everywhere. We go to Hi Life for the food and casual vibe, but it's always fun to see a celebrity on the Upper West Side.
