Editorial Review for EJ's Luncheonette – by Dirk Standen
The Scene
This chain of upscale diners seems to have discovered the formula for success: big helpings of American comfort food at reasonable prices in bright and friendly surroundings. Families flock to EJ's, and a small sign in the entryway asking parents to fold strollers make it clear just how much of a presence kids are. The interior is like a Rockwell painting, with classic blue-and-white diner decor and an old-fashioned lunch counter.
The Food
The highlight here, believe it or not, is the cereal: huge, crunchy portions of oatmeal and granola with a generous sprinkling of fresh fruit and berries. The almond- and corn-flake-encrusted French toast is another favorite. Typical diner food makes up most of the rest of the menu--burgers, chili, Buffalo wings and the like, along with peanut butter and jelly and hot dogs for the kids. And what red-blooded American child wouldn't want dinosaur-shaped chicken nuggets?

The food is great for the prices. Be sure to catch the early bird breakfast/dinner specials. Great food for you buck. however if you cant stand managers screaming across the room at his employees stay away. Its spiols the whole dining experience. Beware Brunches. Long wait and rushed services.
Pros: Great food. Large portions
Cons: Too much noise. Kids are one thing, but i dont need to hear it from management

We spied this place after passing it on the bus while on route to the Popover Cafe for breakfast. I have to say, EJ's french toast was truly satisfying....and the ambience made it an interesting visit...along with the kid friendly menu. So, with that in mind, we tried it for dinner...though I should've gone with my gut instinct not to. Note: always go with your gut instinct...especially in matters of food. The steak was tough (yeah, I know who orders a steak at a diner?), and the chicken parmesan on a bed of fettucine was bland.....and they didn't even have parmesan cheese! The bill was pretty steep, and turned out to be a mistake on the waiters part, which was corrected by the manager on staff. In a nutshell, you gotta try everything at least once....which was once too many for me.
Pros: Good for breakfast
Cons: Overpriced for dinner
