Complete tourist trap and why not...it looks respectable, has the appearance of a city diner, and christ its called "City Diner" so this is what the typical City diner is right.?...wrong. The food is mediocre and when you factor in the price (which is approximately 3 times more than other places that do it better)...this place is a complete stinker. The service was completely awful...I sat at the counter. The server would not even give me a spoon to sitr my coffee. I had to ask the hostess for my check, because the 3 times I asked the server got me nowhere. Do yourself a favor and stay away or own up to what you are...a tourist living in ny.
Pros: It is called City Diner
Cons: mediocre food, terrible service, and high pricing

The service the first time went with my boyfriend was great. It was disappointing that on my second visit, the service was not consistant. But it's a diner, and the food is more than halfway decent at 4 in the morning when you're tired and hungry and just want some real food fast. I'd defnitely suggest going to City Diner if you're in the area and looking for a quick meal. The ambience is nice, with a real diner feel to the place, and the menu is quite extensive. The squash soup was definitely worth another go. The pasta was pretty good, I had linguine and spaghetti. I'd definitely go back again.
Pros: extensive menu, polite staff, ambience, 24 hours
Cons: service was not consistant
