This Upper West Side venue has the look and feel of a classic comedy club. Stand-ups perform against a brick wall on a small raised stage that makes every seat in the house a good one. Comics featured on the bill can usually be found in the small bar area. The mostly unremarkable menu offers salads, sandwiches and pizza at fairly reasonable prices. True to its name, Stand-Up New York offers set-up/punchline humor seven nights a week. Unlike headliner clubs that book longer sets from one big-name comedian, this is a showcase club--where the emphasis is on providing a larger variety of talent…

Raciist, Uninsipired Comedians - Don't believe good ratings!

by JamesOS

Wow has this place deteriorated in the last few months. My wife and I had been to Stand~Up New York toward the end December of last year and had seen some amazing comedians. Professional, friendly, prepared. One or two we'd recognized from TV.

Tonight we saw a raciist host attack the audience and make blatantly raciist statements when his jokes weren't working. We saw a guy do terrible impressions of Al Pacino and Ray Romano with no actual jokes, just vulgar stuff, and some guy even got on stage a little drunk, it seemed, wearing an undershirt and proceeded to make jokes about how we were getting ripped-off on our drinks. Not funny.

We weren't alone. When we walked out we heard almost everyone saying how the show was "so-so" or "comedians were lame" or "wow that was disgusting and raciist."

Note that the two people who say the club is under "new management" and give it five stars suspiciously both say the same phrase, and neither had ever reviewed anything before.

There were one or two funny comedians, but we've seen much better shows at other clubs in the city.

  • Pros: a few good comedians, convinient to Upper West Side
  • Cons: rip-off prices, rude manager, raciist host

GREAT SHOW AT STAND UP NY

by maryh899

I was approached on the street to buy tickets for Stand Up NY's show. The club has recently switched to new management and has changed A LOT. A few of my friends and I went to the Friday night show and the line up included many great comedians who have been on Letterman and The Tonight Show. We had a blast. The whole show kept us laughing and the two drink minimum was really not a problem when you're out having fun with your friends at a great show. I would recommend it to anyone. Each week, the club brings in great acts with many really big names that comes by as well. GREAT TIME! DEFINITELY NEED TO CHECK OUT!

  • Pros: great comedians, nice atmosphere, good drinks, great time
