Pathetic Hotel. Horrible customer service! We arrived late, having called earlier in the day to let the Excelsior know that we were coming late and that they should keep our suite with a queen bed and a pullout sofa. When we arrived, my wife and my two kids were told that all that was left was a suite with two double beds. This suite is about the size of a bathroom in a McDonalds and the double beds can barely sleep one person. I called the desk, assuming they would acknowledge their mistake or at least apologize or show empathy. The guy was a complete jerk. Just bring us a mattress or something so we can sleep, I said. I can sell you a rollaway bed for $10 per night he says. Really? You screw over a guest and then try to take advantage of them. You won't comp us on a rollaway bed. I can't believe it. Have stayed in hundreds of hotels and never have been treated so rudely. AVOID THE EXCELSIOR. IT IS A BAD HOTEL!!

Very Nice Hotel. Great location. Stayed with my wife at Excelsior Hotel recently and had a great time. Very nice hotel, clean rooms and excellent location near Central Park. It was especially perfect because we didn't want to stay in the noisy midtown area. Excelsior is in a real nice neighborhood. The staff is very friendly and accomodating as well.

A castle of comfort that won't break your wallet.. The Scene
There's a reason why guests keep returning to this Upper West Side hotel. The moderately priced rooms, a superb location next to Central Park and the Natural History Museum, and its many perks make it a favorite among tourists and business visitors. The historic building has been a hotel since the 1920s. It was fully renovated five years ago.

The Details
It's easy to forget about the disappointingly small rooms when such great services and surroundings are at your fingertips. Indulge in the extensive concierge offerings, which include baby-sitting arrangements. Or bask in the exquisitely designed lobby, crammed full with decadent chandeliers, marble floors and faux 18th-century French furniture. Guests are guaranteed to leave satisfied. At $19.50 per person, the buffet breakfast is pricey, but it's delicious.
