The Scene
Robert Stuart hits the right note for a neighborhood salon--first-name intimate, fairly priced, friendly and cheerful, with all the quality of glamour-puss competitors. In 1983, Stuart defected from more attitudinal salons to found his own "non-threatening version," whose neighborly attitude was immortalized by Susan Orlean in the New Yorker.
The Services
Don't let the down-to-earth vibe fool you: There's seriously upscale work going on. Though Stuart has been featured in top magazines and counts a large number of famous folks among his clientele, his salons emphasize and deliver very comfortable, wearable cuts and color--with smiles, good advice and well-attuned ears thrown in for free.

I've been getting my hair cut with Lilly for years, and she has done an excellent job each time! I always go in with an extremely vague idea of what I want, and give her an even vaguer description, but she always manages to read my mind and do a perfect job! She also checks the length of each section of hair with me before she cuts it, so I never have any nasty surprises, or wish that she had cut it more. Also, for other curly girls out there, she is great with curly hair, and has lots of good styling tips! A++++!
Pros: Great service, great haircuts!

Robert Stuart Salon is an oasis of tranquility and beauty. Always drenched in beautiful natural light with pretty botanicals. The Chi flows around this shop and has a soothing calming effect. A beautiful boutique atmosphere with a hip stylish staff to greet and service you. I put myself in Robert’s hands, and have never looked or felt better. So many years of styling hair and countless satisfied customers make Robert a master at what he does. Always the brilliant conservationist, his brassy voice, entertaining personality, and strong character make it much more than a mere cut and style. Do yourself a favor and give them a call @ 212 496 1530. This salon is a wonderful place to make friends and get a great look.
