“have been getting my hair cut in New York for ten years, and I have never been able to find an affordable place that gave me a great haircut and made me feel comfortable.”
“If I had to rate all my experiences in a salon, this place takes the cake of being a salon with no creative talent or skill.”
“The staff - including Robert - is friendly - only thing lacking is they don't serve coffee.”
“people-watched a lot of great cuts and colors on a variety of people, both men and women, all ages.”
“am new to UWS and after a brief encounter at other places in the neighborhood, I tried Robert Stuart salon hoping it would be as nice as the place looks from outside.”
“was expecting something nicer than usual since it was Robert himself, but to know that the person who owns and operates the store is rough and unthoughtful and only gives mediocre haircuts, I will never go back.”
“Most people do feel great walking out of a salon so I am sure if we surveyed the City search reviewers we would find the review was written very shortly after their visit.”
“The prices are also reasonable for Manhattan, but that's just an added bonus.”
“said no and chose a true blond color from a chart > I was told that I would need to sit for 20-25 minutes (fine) for the color to take. 35-40 minutes later my hair was checked > Stylist (Deleted name as have sent email to salon with the name) asked th”
Great Experience!. I recently had a cut and color with Keila. She was great! She was very patient and has great skill. My hair is now a deep red color and I love it. I will return!
great colorist. I was very reluctant to start coloring my hair, having always liked my natural color. Keila was recommended by a friend, so i gave her a try. The result was so natural looking that my own mother didn't realize i started to color my hair.Keila and the rest of the staff are friendly and very professional. I highly recommend the salon.
I'm blown away by my hair!!!!. Ok, I had to write a review because I know how hard it is to find a good hair stylist and every girl I know has had a horror hair salon story. So, let me just say that I highly recommend this salon! I saw Keila for highlights and a cut, somehow she squeezed me in on a busy saturday and I cannot believe how awesome my hair looks! Not only did she listen to me, she takes her time and really takes pride in her work - and the results are awesome. I've never seen someone cut the way she does, either. My cut even looks good without blow drying it, which I didn't even ask for! Also, I have to say, I saw this other stylist do an amazing cut on the girl sitting next to me - I think that sylist's name was Brendan. Highly recommend Keila or him! I'm sending my friends here!
Best haircut ever. Robert is is world-class, although in the Upper West Side neighborhood he is as good as any on Madison Avenue or in Paris. I know, having tried both. He is a great stylist, listens to you and translates your words into just the look you had in mind. His new salon is spacious, modern, light and beautiful. I came out earlier today feeling like a new woman!
Wedding Hair Cut!.
Hi All!
I recently went to Robert Stuart's Columbus location and got a haircut by Kayla. She was absolutely wonderful, very sweet, gentle and cared about my opinion greatly! I was getting my haircut for my upcoming wedding....needless to say this is a VERY important haircut!! She greatly exceeded my expectations and I am so happy I chose to go to this salon. I definitely suggest it and specifically Kayla for all your hair needs!! :)
Amazing color!!!!.
I when in for a color, highlights and cut,my stylist Kayla was courteous and attentive,I told her what I wanted and she explained the process and over all cost of the service, first she did my color and match it exactly, and Kayla made sure I didn't have any staining for the color before I left the sink, then I was dried for highlights, after the shampoo she dried my bands and asked if I was satisfy with the tone which I was its was exactly what I wanted and more!!! then haircut and blow,I just wanted trim nothing special and I was happy that she didn't cut more than an inch off.
thanks Kayla !!
Tried and True.
People who know Robert Stuart and the salon know that it has been a great place to go for many years. The old location on Amsterdam was what real estate agents call "cozy".. really small. Intimate in the sense of cramped.
But the place became the go-to salon for a whole bunch of picky people, both men and women.
Why? Because you always get personal attention. And you always get a great cut. It didn't matter if the place was small..
Now Robert has designed and built a really gorgeous , much larger space on Columbus. He has the same core staff and is hiring more, expanded his hours, and gives the same personal attention like the cozy old place.
To get the real story of how good this place is, just talk to a few people who have been coming for years and ask them why they are so loyal.
Robert Stuart: The Ultimate.
You get a great individualized cut here, with amazingly intimate & friendly service, in a gorgeous new salon. If you're not one of the many long-time friends of this place, definitely check it out!
The new Robert Stuart Salon is a testament to the stylish taste and entrepreneurial energy of the owner. Robert is a neighborhood legend, a scary-smart New Yorker who seems to remember everyone's life narrative.
Talk to anyone who has been coming here for years and they will give you the real story: Robert knows hair, and he knows how to deal with a diverse set of clients, one at a time.
He also knows how to create a friendly environment where everyone knows you by name and treats you like royalty.
The negative/nasty reviews are so far from reality that I honestly think there is some kind of conspiracy by jealous competitors.
The Robert Stuart Salon is really in class all by itself, on an island over-populated with ho-hum McHair places.
If you want special attention and a great result at a surprisingly reasonable price, check out this beautiful new salon at Columbus and 82nd.
Amazazing... So great it needs another syllable!.
I just visited Robert's new location, on 82nd and columbus only a few blocks from the old place...... WOW! If you thought the last location was chic, This one is incredible. Firstly, the Salon is roughly three times the size of the old one, and somehow retained that cozy feel. The facade has floor to ceiling windows, that wraps around the corner of the block. The interior is so beautiful, as I entered, I heard passerby's confirm my thoughts with oohs and aaahs. Which in New York is not an easy task.
So I just stopped by to check the new place out, and upon entry realized that due to the inclimate weather of the past few months, I had not taken care of my doo. Lucky me Robert had an appointment later that evening available.
Fast forward 3 hours.... I return to the new location, only to be surprised again, the place is even more stunning at night. Robert once again lived up to my super picky high expectations, not just for my hair... which is flawless by the way. But also for being the great eccentric conversationationlist that he is. Thanks again.
Thank you Steven! We work hard because we are motivated by wonderful clients like you. ( Did you join the raffle for a free Robert haircut? Just fill out a raffle ballot at the front desk.)
unfortunate experience.
I really hate to write a bad review but I feel like its necessary to do here. I have long thick hair that I'm pretty attached to and so I only get it cut 2x a year. That being said I'm willing to pay for a great cut when the time comes to get it done. I had a friend recomment Robert himself as giving her the best layers she'd ever had, so I thought I'd give it a shot. I gave myself ~2 hours for wash cut and blow out. I was done in 45 minutes. This isn't actually a good thing. Robert did a once over on my hair and asked me very quickly what I wanted done, while i was walking towards the hairwash station (didn't sit me down and feel my hair texture or anything) The wash wasn't the most enjoyable experience, which is sad because they can be SO relaxing when done right. The tech was rough and fast. Then when i was done with the wash and the tech tried to comb out my hair (which was tangled because she didn't condition it enough), she was taking too long, so Robert picked up a comb and started to help her. Try and imagine 2 people on either side of your head pulling knots out...
Come to cut time and Robert starts hacking away expertly. I trust that he knows what he's doing, and hes very amicable, assuring me of what he's doing along the way. After a short period of large blunt chops, he says he's going to dry it and put in more finishing touches. Now in the attempt to blow out my hair he find that this does take too long for his schedule, so he calls the tech over to help him. I've had 2 people necessary to blow out my hair once before, but all that means to me is 1) you don't know HOW to blow out thick hair, or 2) you're in a rush to get me out of your chair. Eitherway the blow out was fast and rough, resulting in a little more frizz than I thought was appropriate. Robert finished my cut and sent me on my way very nicely. It felt like a nice cut, but unfortunately their definition of "blow out" means simply dry hair. Its hard to tell how someone has cut your hair without it being styled. Once I went home and styled it MYSELF I discovered that there were a number of problems. He barely touched my bangs, the layers on both sides were uneven in weight, and horror of horrors, the actual bottom edge of my hair was NOTICABLY lopsided.
Robert gives a guarantee that if you're not satisfied, you can come back and get it fixed. I probably should have had them fix it but after such a rushed experience, unbecoming of a salon owner, I was really hesitant to go back and have them mess my hair up more. With a few minor snips here and there myself, I ended up with the cut I wanted.
Over all, the lack of attention to detail is sad. It could be a great salon experience if thye weren't in such a rush to get to the next client. I won't be returning to them.
