“speak as someone who has moved more than a dozen times: this really is an exceptionally good group of people: experienced, organized, thoughtful, positive, highly skilled.”
“Two men took only 15 minutes to take the big Ikea armoire apart and later reversed successfully.”
a pleasant move? yes, it is possible.
I rarely use citysearch, but I had such a surprisingly pleasant moving experience that i felt that it was worth the trouble of writing a post.
I am an experienced mover having worked in the consulting industry and been forced to relocate from city to city. Generally moves are stressful experiences from start to finish... the packing, dealing with a group of strangers in your home (old & new), finding broken pieces of furniture... its never been pleasant...
Until my most recent move. From my initial estimate from Mike, to the free box delivery & until the movers left, WSM was superb. I am happy to report that all of my delicate items arrived in the same condition they were packed up in. The WMS team was competent and courteous the whole way through.
Bravo!
My experience was a nightmare.
West Side Movers were recommended by my old super. My experience was a nightmare.
The movers took little care with myself packed fragile boxes so a lot of it was destroyed during the move. The sales guy took no responsibility, and was extremely belligerent and rude when I told me what happened. The movers used brown packing tape on all my wood furniture, which left an ugly residue. Almost every piece of wood had some damage.
Negligence and Carelessness.
This company damaged nearly everything we moved, due to their negligence and carelessness, and they then refused to compensate us for the damages. They "protected" a marble-topped dresser with one blanket and nothing more; the top predictably broke. Our iMac computer was in original packaging that included thick, molded foam, and they managed to break this foam and to bend the base of the iMac. The base is solid metal, so I cannot imagine the force they had to exert on the box to do this. They did not protect an antique hutch, which was damaged in the move. They did not protect many obviously fragile items but instead threw them loosely into a larger box, which predictably led to them being broken or otherwise damaged irreparably.
I filed an insurance claim but the coverage offered was not nearly enough to compensate for the damages, and the company declined to do the right thing and pay for the damage they did. I will be suing them in small claims court as a result. No one should have to endure what we've had to endure in dealing with them. They refuse to take responsibility and be accountable, and it's truly sickening.
EXCEPTIONAL Movers.
In September I used West Side for the second time. Both moves were flawless. Both moves were two-day moves (one full day at the old place, a shorter one unloading at the new place), and they had to do most of the packing both times. I have a home office and a bazillion books and just generally too much stuff in too small a space... and I was moving it into a smaller space this time.
The movers were fast, efficient, careful, and very smart in the way they did everything. They were thinking ahead all the time they packed, and later stacked, the boxes. They noted essential contents on the boxes, and they verified where things would be going in the new place (many location changes for furniture and books in the new place). I was able to lay hands on the most important things quickly thanks to the way they labeled and stacked things. Perhaps best of all, I could get my office up and running immediately.
They also took excellent care of the most fragile furniture and mementos. When I saw tape wrapped around painted furniture and other delicate items I freaked... until I unwrapped the tape and discovered that it was two strips with their sticky sides together, with no adhesive touching the object. (I'm still using furniture, e.g. a futon sofa and painted file cabinet, damaged by another mover's tape.) And they were very pleasant and considerate to work with. They kept their good humor even when they had to deal with a small bathroom containing four stressed-out cats. (Note: it would be a courtesy to warn the scheduler ahead of time if you have pets; one of my movers was severely allergic to cats.)
I speak as someone who has moved more than a dozen times: this really is an exceptionally good group of people: experienced, organized, thoughtful, positive, highly skilled. I wouldn't dream of using any other NY-area mover.
west side is the best side!.
We used westside movers for our loaded 2 bedroom apartment. 10 men showed up and they did a great job. The entire move took only 6 hours. They even unpacked some boxes such as lamps and books.
The workers are golden. Two men took only 15 minutes to take the big Ikea armoire apart and later reversed successfully. There is no doubt west side movers are among the top 5 NYC moving companies.
Editorial Review. Movers specialize in residential and commercial moves and sell a variety of packing supplies.
Quality mover. I hired WSM to move some of my mother's furniture. They did and excellent and professional job. I was extremely impressed with the way they wrapped up fragile items. Nothing Broke! I would use them again.
