Very, very bad management – I've been dining at this cozy bistro for many years. Sadly, since the change in ownership and management recently, it seems to be in a downward spiral.
Don't even think of leaving a message or email for John Pardo to book a reservation. Your missive will never, ever, be answered. When this complaint was lodged with Myra Cabrera Pardo the new owner, and I'm guessing some relation to silent John, she immediately threw her charming hostess, Nadine, under the bus by saying in the shrillest possible voice, "you're giving out the wrong cards. These are old cards. This is not John's email address." Turns out it was John's correct address, but even if it wasn't, how, by any stretch of the imagination, would poor, delightful Nadine know that.
It's very sad to see soul crushingly incompetent management like this dismantle what was once a nice, local place with nice service from people like Nicolas and delightful live guitar music.
Perhaps because they seem to be surviving solely on promotions and coupons, they've drastically lowered the quality of their ingredients. The steak I had this evening clearly came from a senior bull or a shoe of indeterminate age. Of course, it could've been because it was so criminally overcooked.
But, beware of trying to use those coupons. The Pardos and some of their service staff have a large supply of reasons why your Groupon or Living Social coupon isn't valid - It doesn't include wine, it's only good before 6pm. All untrue of course.
Sigh, another neighborhood local joins the ranks of incurable mediocrity.
Love Paella Night! The live guitarist made the evening memorable. Very authentic and well prepared food. No regrets!
Excellent Bistro – Excellent food, excellent service. Love the escargot! Will return soon!
Excellent fare and service! – First experience at Alouette was awsome! From the Hostess to the server. The was was delish! MUST go back!
Off night or just declining? – We have been dining at Alouette for least five years, once or twice a year. Last night we noticed a steep decline in the quality of the food. In a party of four one person's food was served almost cold. The skate, a staple of French cuisine, was mediocre at best, a bit dried out. The brussel sprout were under cooked. Les moules, alas were scrawny and inferior. A mixed lettuce was fine but uninteresting. We arrived just before seven with reservation but were not seated until 7:20. When I asked for the prix fix which is served until 7 PM the waitress told me we should have made reservations for 6:45 in order to get the prix fix. Lack of grace and mediocre food at $50 a person (drinks included). Not good.
Disappointing and not worth it – Just returned from dinner with family for New Year's Eve: Steak with peppercorn sauce and pomme frites was tough, not easy to chew and was returned twice as the chef wasn't able to cook the steak medium. It clearly was rare not only once but twice. The frites were not crispy and were cold and wimpy. To make matters worse, the price on the check for one of our entrees was incorrect- the maitre-de defensively said that we had "an old menu". While we've heard such good things about Alouette, I have to say that the furnishings resembled a catering hall when the bar mitzvah or wedding is over and the staff is cleaning up. That is to say that all the furnishings looked like they were bought in the restaurant supply district downtown. The only good thing was the waiter who was perfectly nice and reasonable. Not the manager-comme maitre-de.
excellent restaurant – The service at Alouette is a good as it gets, I felt completely spoiled. The drinks were amazing, and the food is excellent - especially the homemade apple tart - what a great way to end a great night there.
Awesome Upper West Side Bistro – This is a great place to have a delicious meal served in a relaxed setting. The service is top-rate and when the French doors are open in the front it is very romantic. My favorite dish is the seafood pot-au-feau. It is similar to a bouillabaisse but not as heavy, and the fenugreek they add to it makes it smell divine. They also have an early prix-fixe menu at $25 with great choices. I can't say enough about this restaurant. I love it.
Wonderful dining experience – I have been to this restaurant many times for dinner or for a snack and I am never disappointed. It has a really intimate atmosphere and the food is great. I highly recommend the prix fixe in the early evening if you can catch it. It is a total bargain for what you get.
OK Service, Good Food! – I was looking for a good place to go on a date before seeing a movie. Thanks to you crazy citysearchers. I enjoyed a tasty, light, expensive meal at Aloutte. Its always nice to find a place on the West Side that is not too hip for its own good. we got there at 730 and it was pretty empty, but filled up by the time we left at 9. I liked every food. Service was just OK.
