“This is one of the best places in the neighborhood - it's great for brunch or dinner, good atmosphere, great food, ok prices.”
“The hostess was rude and it took ten minutes to get the waiters' attention after we were seated.”
Much better than expected!.
I met a friend for lunch at this restaurant near Columbia University and enjoyed it much more than expected given the horrible reviews I had read...
The service was ok-not incredibly attentive but passable. We each had the prix fix lunch which was PLENTY of food. It was a bit pricey for lunch (around 17$) however it was three courses. Pate starter was a nice start with delicious toast. Sauteed salmon with crispy skin was delicious over lentils. Vanilla cheesecake just ok-a bit dry. My friend had cold gazpacho which was said had a spicy kick.
Was a fun and tasty lunch overall.
What a ripoff!.
Tonight my husband and I ordered the bouillabaisse special ($21.00 a plate). My plate contained 4 mussels, 2 shrimp, some tiny mess in the middle that might have been a very small piece of fish, a slice of potato and sprig of fresh rosemary. The most expensive item on the plate was probably the rosemary. It was also tepid. The total amount of food was equivalent to a small appetizer.
This was the most egregious bit of price gouging to which I have been witness. Maybe I don't get out much.
When we complained, the manager told us that that was "what they always send out on Friday".
We left and went to Henry's and had a GIANT bowl of mussels for $16.00. Very nice atmosphere AND you don't get
Great place ....
... if you like to be insulted, looked down upon and have your needs ignored. A great plus is the management's indifference to complaints.
Let's see how long it would take the management to mark this "not helpful"
Great Place. I go out dining all of the time and Le Monde is one of my favorite places. It looks nice, good service and good value on the food. I am not sure what the over priced comments are all about. Peppercorn steak at that price is a great deal, not to mention five dollar beautiful desserts.
Excellent. service, food and drinks all connected at the same time to give us the best experience ever. Thanks Le Monde
good brunch.
Weekend brunch here is excellent. A lot of people say something cockeyed, talk out of the side of their mouth about the french, but word, they can cook. Le Monde remains the shining star of morning side heights. Their french toast transcends any simplistic bread and egg formula, it is milky, sweet, and yet not in any way undercooked. It is as complex a french toast as you'll find in the city or the Hamptons.
Their ground beef is excellent, their burgers are succulent and full, an excellent burger for dine in or take out, tends to be on the rare side so adjust accordingly.
Their smolked salmon, although occassionaly absent, is always a tremendous cut and their Eggs Scandanavian was phenomenal with roasted potatoes that are cooked nearly perfectly, soft inside with a baked crisp outer shell, and a hint of rosemary. It has been replaced with a meal even more sublime, a potatocake and salmon which was a perfect dish, potato pancakes beneath which make a great base for a display of the cut of salmon, so the salmon must be fresh and tasty. Rather than hiding in sauces they display the cut of fish. Truly excellent.
The bartenders treat house vodka as a sacred nectar of the gods to be used very sparingly. They make you order a double to get what passes for a normal drink in most other places and for $18 it's simply not worth it. It's short sighted b/c a decent first drink will make you much more loose with your wallet and likely to order another one (or two).
no bad. i have eaten here a few times with friends from school. not that it is the best food i have ever had but the service was friendly and accommodating, it is my go to place for mussels!
